About us

Christian Daw Design is a boutique interior and architectural design firm with a growing portfolio that spans over a dozen states. Based in the Washington DC metro area with an office in Bethesda, MD, we specialise in creating thoughtfully designed homes that blend classic architecture with modern sensibilities. While our primary focus is interior design, we handle a significant amount of architecture and related work that requires collaboration with other architectural firms for stamping and compliance.

Position overview

We are seeking an experienced architect who not only possesses strong technical skills but also has a highly creative vision for approaching new home and renovation projects, as well as interior design. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on the challenge of collaborating on exciting possibilities, while also being grounded in the realities of budgets and other constraints. You will collaborate closely with our principal, Christian, to lead our architectural design efforts, playing a key role in shaping the firm’s direction. Together you’ll ensure that each project aligns with our clients’ visions and our evolving business and aesthetic goals.

Stylistically, we are passionate about classic architecture and traditionally beautiful homes, but also open to fresh and modern takes on timeless designs. While style is paramount, our clients also expect the perfect balance of comfort, practicality and value. You can also leave any pretence at the door – our homes are casually elegant, thoughtful and always welcoming, perfect for today’s relaxed yet refined lifestyles.

Key responsibilities:

  • architectural design: lead the architectural design for new construction and renovation projects
  • interior design: collaborate with our design team to ensure that architectural and interior elements are cohesively integrated – plans for extensive millwork, furniture, plumbing, electrical and materials. Cross-disciplinary work possible for those who enjoy working on both architecture and interior design and want to have a hand in shaping entire projects
  • project management: coordinate with clients, contractors and external architectural firms for plan approvals and compliance
  • construction documentation: prepare detailed construction documents, including plans, elevations and 3D models as needed for use by contractors and for client presentations
  • construction management: conduct site visits to monitor progress, address issues/troubleshoot and ensure that the construction aligns with the design intent and project specifications

Qualifications:

  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture (with interior design experience preferred).
  • while licensure is not required for this position, comparable skills that allow you to communicate accurate plans to partner architecture firms are essential
  • minimum of five years’ experience in architectural design, ideally with high-end residential projects
  • strong proficiency in AutoCAD (we are currently an AutoCAD/SketchUp/Photoshop office)
  • experience with Revit, Chief Architect or similar is a plus as we are open to alternative tools for the future
  • strong grasp of construction methods, materials, building codes and architectural/engineering standards
  • general design knowledge with proficiency in sourcing, knowledge of interior materials and a strong sense of scale and colour
  • exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively and pleasantly convey design ideas and technical details to clients, contractors and team members
  • ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, managing multiple projects and changing timelines simultaneously
  • licenses and certifications: NCARB, AIA, PMP or LEED preferred but not required

Compensation and benefits:

  • competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • comprehensive health and dental coverage
  • generous paid time-off policy
  • discretionary bonus structure based on company and individual performance
  • at-cost employee purchasing program for materials and products

Work environment

We offer a dynamic, creative and supportive work environment where work-life balance is valued, but our commitment to efficiently delivering exceptional designs for our clients always comes first.

Job Type: Full-time, exempt, hybrid remote/in-office with some light travel.

Legal work status required.
