Job Summary :

Contributes to the Decision Support department through the development of compelling tools and analyses to drive quality and operational excellence, strengthen and support our workforce, and enhance the breadth and depth of care for the community. Builds ad-hoc analyses, queries, reports, data models, and data pipelines to solve business problems and effectively communicate findings to stakeholders across the organization. Acts as a subject matter expert on all things related to data. Participates in departmental process improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Data Processing
  2. Utilizes Python to automate processes, clean data, and develop data models.
  3. Creates and maintains data pipelines.
  4. Contributes to a robust Enterprise Data Warehouse.
  5. Data Collection and Analysis
  6. Analyzes data to understand relationships, validate hypotheses, and discover patterns and trends.
  7. Leverages an understanding of database schema and has a broad knowledge of healthcare data.
  8. Designs data collection, standardization, aggregation, analysis, and reporting strategies.
  9. Validates and improves data integrity and accuracy.
  10. Understands database concepts (schema, tables, joins, subqueries).
  11. Dashboard Development
  12. Develops, schedules, and automates queries, reports, and dashboards that solve organizational business problems using multiple analytics platforms.
  13. Creates compelling visuals and presents data to a wide array of audiences.
  14. Distills large quantities of data from multiple sources into crisp, clear insights that add organizational value.
  15. Contributes to organizational reporting strategies and helps resolve issues through vendor ticketing systems.
  16. Supports ongoing improvement of analytics systems, including systems administrator functions.
  17. Project Ownership
  18. Takes responsibility for projects and uses expertise to develop effective approaches and solve problems.
  19. Maintains positive customer service-oriented approach with internal stakeholders and external business partners.
  20. Meets project timelines and balances competing and rapidly changing priorities.
  21. Works collaboratively with report requesters, providing guidance to define report requirements and validate results.
  22. Teamwork
  23. Support department through use and/or development of skills that enables coverage of co-worker's duties.
  24. Contributes to a positive working environment and supports organization and department initiatives.
  25. Troubleshoots data discrepancies throughout systems/queries/reports.
  26. Effectively mentors other team members.
  27. Makes recommendations on best practices for our organization’s data architecture.
  28. Develops documentation and training material.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Education

Required: NA

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in related field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Healthcare Administration, or Public Health.

Minimum Work Experience

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience as a data analyst, business analyst, informaticist, project manager, or related role.
  • 5+ years of experience working with data and databases (schema, tables, joins, subqueries).
  • 3+ years working with Python.
  • 3+ years working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
  • Proven experience developing reporting solutions under minimal supervision.
  • Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, SharePoint.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred:

  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Cerner, Discern Analytics 2, Oracle Analytics Cloud.

Functional Demands :

Working Conditions: Physical office setting.

Physical Requirements: Mostly a computer-based job. Some walking to consult with co-workers and staff. Must be on-site at the St. John's Health Campus or other facilities to perform the functions of this role.

Reports to: Manager Decision Support.

Internal and External Contacts: Physician Services Administrative Team, Hospital Administrative Team, St. John’s Health Staff, Patients, and Families, Vendors, Consultants.
