Summary:
Dometic Marine's headquarters is in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products. They also have a mobile cooling division.
A master tradesperson who supports all machining operations and processes, including designing, applying, and facilitating best practices and continued improvement initiatives within production machining.
Main responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the efficient and timely production of machined items within an assigned Machining area / building to meet the planned schedule.
  • Perform set-up of CNC machining centres, and other process equipment as needed to support production requirements.
  • Create, edit, and modify CNC programs as needed for multiple control platforms.
  • Read, understand, and interpret product drawings, including GD&T and tolerancing notes.
  • Develop machining processes for new parts using the product drawing as a starting point.
  • Set-up and use manual machining equipment as needed for repair/rework of parts.
  • Use common manual inspection tools and equipment to measure parts. Able to instruct others on the proper use and care of hand measuring tools and gauges.
  • Read, understand, and interpret the output of CMM, Contracer, and other advanced inspection equipment. Apply this understanding to fix machining process problems or facilitate improvements.
  • Troubleshoot process issues related to part quality, scrap, tooling, gauges, etc.
  • Perform tool changes (inserts, drills, reamers, taps, grinding wheels, honing tools, etc.)
  • Clear alarms on machines and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Perform offset adjustments to programs as needed.
  • Support launch of new equipment through learning and training.
  • Monitor process performance and cycle time to ensure output standards are met
  • Mentor junior Production workers, and Machine operators.
  • Train operators and other personnel in the safe operation of machines to achieve desired quality and quantity of output.
  • Participates in the design of Jigs & Fixtures.
  • Ability to perform CNC program transfer on a variety of machines.
  • Available to work overtime on weekdays and weekends as required to meet customer demand for product.
Requirements
Qualifications and experience:
We believe that the ideal candidate has the following qualifications and experiences:
  • Post-secondary training in machining
  • BCIT CNC Machine Technician Diploma program
  • Provincial journeyman's ticket, or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification Red Seal Endorsement in Machinist or Tool and Die
  • Minimum 5 years working in a production machine shop environment
Behavioral requirements:
  • Displayed practical understanding of cutting tool parameters; selects and procures optimized tooling as well as creates and procures custom tool designs.
  • Displays good working knowledge of cutting tooling; can select the proper tooling based on price point, process stability, inspection ease, and cycle time.
  • Displays fundamental knowledge of GD&T principles and applications.
  • Proven ability to investigate problems by asking questions, performing tests, and collecting data. Able to interpret the data and pursue a sound direction for solving the problem.
  • A role model for others and acts as a coach and trainer.
  • Communicate effectively; verbal, written, or electronic utilizing tools and forms within the facility.
  • Computer Literacy - efficient in MS Office applications, Telefloogle, MAX, eForms and other company specific applications.
