Subject to Recall FLSA Status: Exempt Probationary Period: 120 Days Salary: Depending on Qualifications/Experience and Licensure Minimum of $32.15 to $41.46 per hour Posting Period: Position will be open until filled (Applications will be reviewed weekly) JOB DUTIES: Design Engineer 1: Under supervision of Assistant Sanitary Engineer, supervises, reviews, and develops detailed plans and design specifications for County water and/or wastewater projects. Evaluates, researches and analyzes feasibility of construction of water/wastewater projects. Reviews drawings, plans or designs submitted by contractors/developers; suggests revisions as needed and confirms available water and sewer capacity. Reviews, approves and denies applications for connection to the County water and sewer systems. Determines appropriate fees (i.e. capacity, plan review and inspection fees) for new developments. Prepares and/or reviews requests for proposals, construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, bid tabulations, quantity calculations, assessment roles, pay estimates, change orders, extra work contracts, resolutions and contract documents. Prepares documentation necessary for the acceptance and release of Maintenance and/or Performance Bonds. Meets with public officials, contractors, consultants, etc. to confer on design of projects; acts as designated owner representative for project scheduling, etc. Attends public hearings, pre-bid conferences, bid openings and pre-construction conferences, involving some evening work hours. Approves drawings, plans or designs prepared by contractor, engineer, and/or suppliers for structural adequacy and conformance with specifications, regulations and policy. Design Engineer 2: Under the general direction of the Assistant Sanitary Engineer, supervises, reviews and develops detailed plans and design specifications for County water and/or wastewater projects. Utilizes P.E. License to seal plans and permit applications for approval. Presents projects to the Board of County Commissioners and recommends approval for design, bidding, construction and/or change orders. Assists with development of the Capital Improvement Plan for the water and wastewater systems. Evaluates, researches and analyzes feasibility of construction of water/wastewater projects from concept through construction. Reviews drawings, plans or designs submitted by contractors/developers; suggests revisions as needed and confirms available water and sewer capacity.
