Role Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Certification Engineer to join our Airworthiness and Certification team here at ZeroAvia. As a Certification Engineer, you will play a crucial role in certifying our electric propulsion systems for hydrogen-electric aircraft. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, working on innovative solutions to propel the aviation industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Responsibilities:

  1. Working within the Design Organisation, the Lead Certification Engineer reports to the Certification Manager and is responsible for:
  2. Providing subject matter expert guidance to the wider design team in relation to certification aspects.
  3. Developing the certification basis for new and novel technologies.
  4. Leading the creation of Certification Demonstration Documentation in accordance with DOA Procedures.
  5. Assisting with the creation of Flight Conditions and Permit to Fly / Experimental Flight Permit documentation.
  6. Interfacing with various internal and external organisations as required.
  7. Taking an active role in regulator liaison.
  8. Acting as Compliance Verification Engineer (where independent).

Essential Experience/Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 5 years practical experience working in a FAA/EASA Part 21J or Military Design Organisation environment or FAA certification organisation including carrying out Type Certification or Significant Major Modifications / Supplemental Type Certificate activities.
  2. Master’s Degree in Engineering, B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering.
  3. Strong working knowledge of Part 23/25J aircraft.
  4. Specialist knowledge of Mechanical Systems.
  5. Experience in compliance analysis and certification documentation drafting.

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

  1. Previous approval as Part 21J Compliance Verification Engineer or FAA DER/DA.
  2. Good understanding of FAA Order 8110-4c.
  3. Experience with certification of new and novel technologies would be highly desirable, for example working experience at an EVTOL/electric aerospace company.

The wage scale or salary range for this position is between $135,000 - $150,000. In addition to the foregoing base compensation, additional compensation and benefits are available to employees and eligible family members (as applicable) including the following:

Bonus: Annual discretionary bonuses.

Equity: Ability to exercise company stock options.

Retirement: Eligible to participate in the company's 401(k) Plan, with up to a 4% matching.

Health Insurance: Employer covers up to 80% of the employee's monthly premiums on medical, dental, and vision.

Life Insurance: Basic Life/AD&D of up to $50,000 and the option to add on Supplemental Coverage.

Short-Term Disability: Up to 60% of your earnings for up to a period of 24 weeks.

Long-Term Disability: If your disability extends beyond 180 days, LTD Coverage for up to 60% of your earnings.

Paid Time Off: Eligible employees may accrue up to 120 hours per year (15 days) and may borrow up to 40 hours (5 days).

Sick Time: Eligible employees may accrue up to 40 hours, per year (5 days).

Paid Holidays: 12 observed holidays, per calendar year.

The Fly Club: Up to $2,000 of reimbursement towards flying lessons to all full-time staff.
