WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior OCS Engineer to work out of our Portland, OR location.
Your Impact
- Ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects;
- Develop design approaches and concepts for projects including Power Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail, and High Speed Rail, utilizing overhead contact or third rail systems;
- Prepare overhead contact system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems;
- Develop and review designs and technical specifications, meeting quality standards;
- Develop construction cost estimates;
- Develop design/engineering cost estimates;
- Assist project managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings;
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as required;
- Perform field inspections as needed;
- Train and develop support staff;
- Participate in WSP’s quality process for all deliverables;
- Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings;
- Meet with various public or private entities to discuss issues relating to engineering/construction challenges and programs;
- Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff;
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines to provide trusted advisor service and future-ready solutions for clients;
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures;
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior transit and rail experience.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports.
- Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.
- Commissioning of Traction Power Distribution Systems and Equipment, including experience with engineering design on at least three transit or commuter/intercity rail projects;
- Good written and verbal communications skills and understanding of the English language;
- Experience in a MicroStation and AutoCAD design environment for the development of Overhead Contact System design drawings;
- Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications;
- Immediate availability to work in the US.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- Ability to perform site investigations in medium voltage (MV) substations and along electrified railroad.
