Position Overview: Riverside Research is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work in our Lexington, MA, office. We are searching for an experienced candidate that has worked in environments with good software cultures promoting best practices and processes. We seek a motivated and collaborative employee who will be comfortable working within a cohesive software development team. This candidate will help define architecture, plan out designs, write code to implement functionality, and maintain a software system that includes multiple services, components, and clients, including a web client and a client-server thick client.
Responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
- Research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for military, communications, aerospace, scientific, and general computer applications.
- Set operational specifications and formulate and analyze software requirements.
- Develop, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized utility programs.
- Analyze user needs and develop software solutions.
- Design software or customize software for client use with the aim of optimizing efficiency.
- May analyze and design databases within application areas, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team.
- May supervise computer programmers.
- May design embedded systems software.
- Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis.
- Full life-cycle software development participation, from feature conception and requirements generation to software architecture and design, implementation, build, deployment, testing, and support.
- Areas of focus may include application architecture, software design, user-interface and experience, database management, client-side and server-side development, web application development, testing frameworks, and understanding and integrating with DevOps tools.
- Collaborate with project manager and other development team members to continue to define and develop a robust, high-quality software system, with an eye for extensibility to leverage and display different types of data in the future.
- Interact with stakeholders, customers, and users to understand operational strengths and weaknesses and help define roadmap and future focus areas for the software system.
- On occasion, provide direct customer support and technical assistance to users of the software.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Secret level Security Clearance.
- Ten years of professional programming experience with a MA/MS degree in software engineering or computer science or equivalent work and professional experience that is documented and can be demonstrated.
- Experience and expertise in modern software technologies, architectures, and frameworks that are used in web application stacks. Examples include JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Spring, Hibernate, Angular, Node, Java, and Kotlin.
- Experience with database technologies related to modern software application stacks. Examples include Cassandra, MySQL, MSSQL, and MongoDB.
- Experience with user interface and user experience design and implementation.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated desire to grow and learn new technologies.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Active DoD Security Clearance of at least the Top Secret level.
- Strong experience and knowledge with the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS), the future Mission Planning System (MPS), JMPS Open Mission Systems (JOMS), Next Generation Open Mission Services (NOMS), and Joint Precision Air Drop System (JPADS).
- Experience developing and sustaining Unique Planning Components (UPCs) and Common Components (CCs).
- In-depth understanding of full spectrum Airdrop mission planning (e.g., air-launched and air-dropped; kinetic and non-kinetic; single and multi-ship planning).
- Familiarity with the JMPS Technical Rules (JTRs).
- Well versed in CI/CD infrastructure and processes required to field new capabilities.
- Strong experience in object-oriented design and implementation.
- Strong experience in functional programming design and implementation.
- Full stack development and architecture experience, including, but not limited to, web services, client-server communication, database modeling, microservices, containerization, user facing interfaces, and the frameworks related to these items.
- Experience with different software development methodologies, especially agile.
- Experience with the tools that are used for managing software lifecycle processes including, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, BitBucket, Swagger, SonarQube, Deployments, MatterMost, Azure Portal, Jira Importer, Nexus, Jenkins, Grafana, and Prisma Cloud.
- Collaborative experience with various aircraft subsystem developers, aircraft test organizations, aircraft integration labs and aircraft operations support personnel.
- Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and tools such as Naïve-Bayes, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, and TensorFlow.
- Strong organization skills to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly within the constraints of clients’ timelines and budgets.
- Strong data analysis skills.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing directly with customers in a productive and iterative fashion.
Global Comp: $165,000 - $195,000. This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
