SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The purpose of this job is to produce machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, while maintaining quality and safety standards, keeping records, maintaining equipment and supplies.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Setup and operate one or more of the following machines: CNC multitasking machining centers, CNC multitasking lathes, CNC lathes, 3/4/5-axis CNC machining centers, CNC EDM, multi-spindle lathe. Capable of running basically all machines in department. May also setup and operate manual lathe, manual mill, drill press and various secondary equipment. May be required to operate multiple machines simultaneously.
  • Independently work from factory work orders, routings, drawings, process drawings & layout sheets, written or verbal instructions to go from raw material to the finished product.
  • Perform significant program edits to CNC programs.
  • Utilize knowledge of working properties and machining processes for a wide variety of materials such as stainless steels, duplex stainless steels, monels, Hastelloy's and other nickel alloys, cast iron, carbon steel, bronze, etc.
  • May be required to grind own tools for special requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and correct possible programming problems.
  • Perform setups and troubleshoot problems/issues.
  • Inspect work produced, including 1st piece inspection, using micrometers, bore gauges, vernier calipers, or other measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications. Maintain tolerances as close as 0.0005".
  • Follow preventative maintenance procedures on equipment, tooling and parts as prescribed by the supervisor and report operating difficulties of equipment.
  • Assist other operators with setup and troubleshooting as required.
  • Train and instruct other employees when required.
  • Ensure the protection of company intellectual property and all other assets.
  • Keep machine clean and well lubricated and work area orderly.
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations.
  • Other duties as required.

EHS REQUIREMENTS:
  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the company's TRIR goals
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company's environmental performance goals
  • Complete, and actively participate in all the company's safety training requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). CNC machining certificate preferred
Experience: Minimum of 2 years previous experience with independent set-up/troubleshooting on CNC equipment preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to stand for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver tools up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned area.
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings.
  • Must be able to follow routers, use simple math, and use basic handheld measuring tools.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives and reassign priorities.
  • Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work performed in a general warehouse environment.
