Sr. Cisco Network Engineer

Compass Pointe Consulting LLC, is a Maryland based, Woman Owned Small Business specializing in IT and Finance & Accounting Solutions and Services is looking for Sr. Cisco Network Engineer - THIS POSITION IS ONSITE IN SILVER SPRING, MD.

Sr. Cisco Network Engineer will be responsible to lead engineering services for network hardware and software, planning system maintenance and support and also develop system management strategies for a variety of network platforms. Responsible to plan and implement necessary hardware and software upgrades proactively. Directly responsible to monitor and maintain network infrastructure and services. Responsible to ensure the operation of a variety of network environments. Must be able to maintain and configure Cisco products and services. Provide support and management for multiple network infrastructure systems. Responsible to provide precise, detailed documentation regarding the various network environments for the change control process and the technical documentation repository.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Network Management
   • Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
   • Performing network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
   • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
   • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
   • Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues.


2. System Integration/ Implementation
   • Engineer and build and maintain network platforms and services.
   • Integrate network products into existing network technologies.
   • Implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers.
   • Participate in Installation, move, adds and changes in the environment.
   • Set and manage deadlines.


3. System/Project Planning
   • Engineer and deploy network infrastructure systems design and configuration.
   • Participate in design of Disaster recovery planning.
   • Assist in the creation of test plans and scripts for back-up and recovery solutions.
   • Assist in the development of network solutions.
   • Performs hardware and network diagnosis.
   • Capable of devising ways to accomplish a difficult purpose; ability to recognize a problem and construct an effective solution compatible with overall company operations.


4. Technical Proficiency
   • Demonstrate understanding of standard networking protocols, virtual environments, SDWAN, CISCO ACI, and hybrid cloud.
   • Network security experience.
   • Maintain professional expertise through continuing education at conferences, seminars, user group meetings & review of current literature.
   • Pursue industry standard technical certifications.
   • Provide technical support and consultation to IS staff.


5. IT Best Practices
   • Actively participate in the Department's ITIL processes
   • Participate in the Incident Management process; proactively work to resolve Incidents and meet service requests; document relevant data on requests and resolutions in agreed upon timeframe.
   • Escalate incidents according to procedures; convert incidents to change requests as needed.
   • Participate in the Change Control process; complete change tasks and update them with relevant information and status changes.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor's Degree Computer Science (Required) Or Minimum Work Experience 7 years Hands-on systems engineering experience.
2. Required Licenses and Certifications MUST HAVE EITHER CCNP, CCIE
3. Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS).
4. ACI
5. SD-WAN
6. Experience with routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and ideally wireless technologies (not required)
7. Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
8. Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
9. Excellent written and oral communication skills
