POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Fire Protection Designer will be responsible for managing other fire protection designers and providing design of fire protection systems, including performing hydraulic calculations and producing construction documents. This individual will also understand the building/fire codes and standards to produce specifications and assist in studies on various fire protection related applications.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

1. Supervise and assist other fire protection designers.
2. Prepare fire protection systems layout and detailed drawings to produce a complete set of construction drawings in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
3. Assist in the preparation of contract specifications.
4. Perform accurate design calculations including hydraulic calculations.
5. Coordinate work with both internal and external stakeholders, providing technical support and work direction as needed.
6. Review fire protection contractor shop drawings.
7. Perform field surveys and construction administration duties.
8. Provide technical information and assistance to project engineer and/or project manager.
9. Make recommendations as to the feasibility of certain systems or equipment and evaluate products for their applications.
10. Coordinate system design with other disciplines, consultants, and utilities.
11. Perform site surveys and site observations.
12. Perform hydrant flow tests.
13. Respond to RFI's with the approval of the Project Manager.
14. Additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

1. NICET Certified Level III in Water-Based Systems Layout.
2. Minimum of Five years of design experience.
3. Highly motivated, professional demeanor with a 'can do' attitude.
4. Team-oriented and strong work ethic.
5. Proficient and accurate data entry skills.
6. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and shift focus if needed to assist other staff.
7. Maintain a well-organized system to account for various information processed.
8. Excellent written and oral communication.
9. Strong attention to detail.
10. Effective at researching and writing reports/studies.
11. Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
12. Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices.
13. Revit or HydraCAD for Revit experience.
14. Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
15. Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.

Preferred:

1. Associate degree in Drafting and Design.
2. NICET Certified Level IV in Water-Based Systems Layout.
