Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager based out of Billerica, MA.

Working within the Cargo and Vehicle Inspection section of Rapiscan Systems Engineering team. As part of our team, the Mechanical Engineering Manager will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction through to design delivery and continuous improvement in manufacturing. This person will be responsible for the technical and administrative management of the Mechanical Engineering group.

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical and administrative management of the work activities, deliverables, and environment for the Mechanical Engineering team across the Stoke and Billerica sites.
  2. Provide technical leadership.
  3. Support and conduct design reviews per established project plans, determining and adjudicating open action items, project risk elements and managing constraints to closure.
  4. Enforce proper configuration control and document release processes including oversight of Agile and Engineering Connect for SolidWorks and Autodesk Vault for Inventor.
  5. Understand and drive organisational processes for the ISO: 19001 quality management system related to design, analysis, plans and other Engineering documentation.
  6. Train and mentor Engineers and other support staff via personal development methodologies.
  7. Conduct annual reviews, salary merit adjustments and provide feedback and career path guidance.
  8. Develop and review regularly succession plans for the whole team.
  9. Be responsible for design sign-off to the manufacturing group and process Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) through Agile.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required, Master's degree preferred.
  2. Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an engineer, 5 years of experience leading a team in delivering innovative hardware.
  3. SolidWorks design experience is essential, with a proven track record in the design of large fabrications, sheet metalwork and machined components.
  4. Experience with plastic design and fabrication as well as non-standard metals such as lead and tungsten.
  5. The ability to work with other design packages such as Autodesk Inventor would be beneficial.
  6. Experience of PLM systems ideally Agile.
  7. ERP experience appropriate for the Engineering environment, ideally Dynamics365.
  8. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  9. Communication skills – both verbal and written, especially interfacing with teams.
  10. Organisational and planning skills.
  11. Ability to mentor, motivate and educate early career engineers.
  12. Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  13. Extensive knowledge of mechanical design via CAD.
  14. Demonstrated knowledge of CE directives related to mechanical products.
  15. Demonstrated knowledge and compliance to safety standards called out by CE, ANSI, UL, CSA, etc.
  16. Demonstrated knowledge of reliability practices as related to mechanical design.
  17. Strong background in the creation of new design concepts for heavily fabricated products ideally within a machinery and capital equipment environment.
  18. Understanding of skills required to develop complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  19. Demonstrated ability to operate independently and cross functionally with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  20. Punctuality and reliability.
  21. Experience of design for manufacture, with a background in a production environment would be beneficial.
