Stewart Engineering is looking for a Structural Engineer I or Senior Structural Engineer (based on experience) to add their team. This position will perform and coordinate structural engineering designs and modeling of buildings’ structural systems from design through construction.

POSITION TITLE: Structural Project Engineer I or Senior Structural Project Engineer (Based on Experience)

OBJECTIVE: Perform and coordinate structural engineering designs and modeling of buildings’ structural systems from design through construction

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform the analysis and design of buildings’ structural gravity and lateral systems under direct supervision of more senior engineers.
  • Perform design in accordance with current Code requirements and accepted engineering standards using both manual and computer methods.
  • Interface and communicate with clients as needed by the projects and directed by more senior engineers.
  • Coordinate drawings with architect and other consultants.
  • Research technical issues and report findings.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide modelling and drawing assistance on projects.
  • Perform Construction Administration related duties such as site visits, review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and assist in the development of technical solutions for field issues.
  • QA/QC own work prior to submitting to manager or project managers.
  • Actively participate as a member of the staff. Participation may include tasks such as training, special committees, or outside organizations.
  • Mentor Graduate Engineers and other Engineers for increased understanding of the structural engineering field.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of structural engineering concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, and detail the structural systems of buildings and other structures
  • Intermediate knowledge of local, state, and national building and material codes. This includes but not limited to ASCE7, IBC, NDS, AISC, AISI, and ACI codes
  • Intermediate knowledge of A/E/C industry terminology, documents, and procedures
  • Intermediate understanding of the roles of related engineering disciplines (i.e., civil and geotechnical)
  • Intermediate understanding of general construction practices

  • Skills
  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, Blue Beam, and other relevant software.
  • Proficient in the use of RAM, RISA, and/or ETABS and other analysis and design software.
  • Intermediate construction document reading skills.
  • Proficient at advanced mathematic computations to include algebra and trigonometry.
  • Fluent and comprehensive understanding of the English language including reading, writing, and speaking required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skilled in training less experienced staff in proper use of Structural Engineering standards and engineering software.

REQUIRED (MINIMUM) QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Years of relevant work experience.
  • Project Engineer I - 5 years of experience in the design and preparation of construction documents of building structural systems
  • Senior Project Engineer - Minimum of 15 years of experience in the design and preparation of construction documents of building structural systems.
  • Education
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with concentration in Structural Engineering from ABET accredited University
  • Certifications/Licenses
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or Structural Engineer (SE) License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • REVIT modeling software skills
  • Driver’s License
