Position Description
TAIT's ideal candidate is proficient in AutoCAD, has a mechanical aptitude, and experience with (or the desire to learn) the design of fueling systems. A degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required. PE, or EIT is preferred but not required with experience in Civil Engineering or designing fuel systems.
The Fuel System Designer/Environmental Engineer will be responsible for leading TAIT's Fueling Design team with designs and AutoCAD drafting of construction plans for fuel storage tank installation projects located throughout the United States. Position will need to understand the client’s project needs, project parameters, and the agency requirements to prepare project deliverables. The Fuel System Designer will also be responsible for preparing SPCC Plans for TAIT's existing clients.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Use AutoCAD to produce construction plans and assist in the design of fueling systems.
- Work at the direction of the Project Manager to complete design requirements.
- Prepare project schedules/ project cost estimates that meet project requirements.
- Prepare plans that are permittable and constructible; prepare specifications in CSI format for bidding and construction.
- Coordinate with client to establish tank system design requirements; coordinate with cities, counties, and other agencies to advance projects.
- Coordinate design and submittals with project subconsultants; review and follow timeliness, submittal processes, and fees.
- Perform SPCC inspections, or direct others to perform inspections; prepare and certify SPCC Plans, or review and certify plans prepared by others.
- Other tasks as assigned.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the preparation & design of fueling systems.
- Experience & proficiency with AutoCAD; ability to follow CAD standards.
- Previous experience designing fueling systems in CA; understanding & knowledge of CA requirements.
- Experience coordinating and communicating with City and Client in the preparation of designs.
- Experience in the preparation of Submittal Packages to City Plan Checkers
- Candidate should be self-motivated, and product driven with the ability to collaborate with the team to meet project and client deadlines and project budgets.
- B.S. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- Current knowledge and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Valid & current Driver’s License.
- PE or EIT - preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with CUPA regulations for UST installation; Fire code regulations for AST installations; CARB regulations & familiarity with Phase I & Phase II requirements; familiarity with equipment suppliers.
- Previous experience with SPCC Plans – preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with fuel design systems, pumps, valves, site layouts and components – highly preferred but not required.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills; excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Drive to job sites, client meetings, or city offices for plan submittals.
- Walk job site locations when needed.
- Occasionally carry, lift, push, pull plans ranging from 1-20lbs.
Salary for the position: $80,000/yr - $100,000/yr
