Toole Design is the leading engineering, planning, and landscape architecture firm specializing in multimodal transportation. Since our start in 2003 as a single office in Maryland, we have expanded throughout the United States. Our talented team of planners, landscape architects, and engineers are committed to delivering quality work that meets the needs of all people, regardless of age, ability, race, or gender. Every project our employees deliver directly and positively affects our communities. We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
Our design projects are at all different scales, from street reconstruction projects to concept development and design for high-comfort bikeways for states, cities, and counties. Our engineers, planners, and landscape architects work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero projects, transit plans and studies, Safe Routes to School plans and designs, active transportation plans, new mobility and curbside management, trails and greenways, Complete Streets, design guidelines, and more. We remind ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity every step of the way.
A Day in the Life of a Project Transportation Engineer
You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects. You support interdisciplinary project teams to help deliver multimodal transportation projects in a wide range of contexts, including roadway reconfigurations, intersection redesigns, and bikeway and trail design. You use programs such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and Synchro to oversee and contribute to production work on your projects, and state-of-the-art approaches to create sustainable multimodal transportation networks.
You work on a wide spectrum of projects that inform your design work, including multimodal corridor and intersection studies, traffic and crash analysis, and design guidance and standards. You share your knowledge with staff and clients to develop feasibility studies, Vision Zero and safety plans, streetscape plans, conceptual designs, cost estimates, and construction documents including signing and striping plans and traffic signal plans.
You lead small Oakland and western region design projects and serve in other project leadership roles on larger/complex projects. You contribute to and lead some engineering business development efforts and pursuits for Northern California. You get to work with a close-knit team that is passionate about the work and the communities that you serve.
We are targeting a salary range of $104,000 to $119,000 for this position. Candidates with more years of experience or exceptional qualifications may fall into a different pay range.
