JOB DESCRIPTION:
L3Harris Seabed Systems (SBS) has an opening in the software engineering organization within its Maritime Systems sector site located in Goleta just outside of Santa Barbara, CA. This L3Harris site, previously known as MariPro, has been growing in business since the 1960s. SBS is a supplier of long-life undersea sensor and communication systems for the U.S. and foreign Navies, commercial, academic, and scientific customers.
The software engineer is responsible for the development of computer software that monitors operation of the seabed / acoustic data acquisition hardware. The test equipment is configured to operate in many different environments including factory, depot and maintenance operations, laboratory analysis, aboard ship, etc. The primary focus of the position is embedded software and user interface (UI) software development on Windows and Linux desktop platforms. A candidate with a strong understanding and a skilled eye for user interface design and development is preferred. Additional hardware tasks may be assigned based on the candidate’s skill set.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Design and implement software in C/C++, C#, or VB languages.
- Implement assigned projects and project tasks to provide software engineering solutions including software design, documentation, verification and validation, used in evaluating, testing and processing high fidelity data acquisition systems.
- Perform technical review, design analysis, development and selection of hardware and mission critical computer software.
- Modify existing software for systems or test facilities.
- Perform computer hardware and software development or implementation analyses; partition and structure the work to provide a means to assess and measure progress.
- Provide independent validation and verification of candidate designs and implementation approaches.
- Develop, test, and document software code; support installation into higher level assembly as required.
- Perform software configuration management to ensure that the code reflects the latest version and revision level.
- Implement check and balance procedures to monitor, review and evaluate design activities performed to assure conformance with customer requirements, company standards and sound engineering practices including quality systems procedures.
- Ensure that assigned project tasks are completed, meet established technical and schedule requirements and comply with the company’s quality system procedures. Identify and report quality problems in the assigned areas and recommend corrective action and/or alternative solutions to correct abnormal problems or trends that could jeopardize achievement of cost or schedule objectives.
- Prepare design review material in support of SRR, PDR, CDR, and other technical audits for assigned designs.
- Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers, suppliers, co-workers, industry and professional associations, government agencies and the local community.
- Requires proficient knowledge of job area.
- Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
- Ability to travel up to 15%.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer / Electrical, or Electronics Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college or university; and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Or, Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- Or, In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance is required to meet eligibility requirements to access US classified information, which also requires US Citizenship.
- 2+ years of experience designing and implementing software in C/C++, C#, or VB languages.
- 2+ years of practical knowledge of project management.
- 2+ years of experience in embedded software and user interface (UI) software development on Windows and Linux desktop platforms.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Understanding of “UI” - User Interface, elements, tools, and techniques.
- Linux OS Configuration, kernel modification / drivers, Uboot.
- C/C++, C#, VB, Verilog, Java, Structured Text / PLC.
- Strong analytic and communication skills.
- Requires the ability to interpret and communicate engineering plans and specifications. Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria.
- Excellent computer skills: ability to comprehend new hardware / software applications.
- Experience using and configuring networking equipment.
- Ability to write a concise report of findings.
- Effective human relation skills are essential.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $90,000 - $158,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
