Job Description
The Project Engineer shall be responsible for delivering campaign specific engineering deliverables for well intervention projects and completing general engineering tasks in support of Helix operations. This shall include providing technical expertise to meet operational milestones, collaborating with engineers from various disciplines, managing supplier deliveries, and interfacing with clients, suppliers, and other departments. The position is an integral role operating within the Subsea Systems Intervention Group (SSIG).
Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Complete assigned campaign engineering deliverables to meet project deadlines.
  • Operate as the engineering interface for projects, suppliers, and end clients.
  • Produce engineering drawings and documentation in support of Helix operations.
  • Review external calculations (e.g., structural reviews, hydraulics analyses, riser analyses, FEA, sea-fastening calculations).
  • Perform new product design as related to subsea intervention equipment. This may involve specific subcomponent design or overall system design.
  • Provide general technical support for onshore and offshore operations.
  • Assist with in-house asset maintenance and general engineering upgrades and improvements.
  • Ensure compliance within industry standards and in-house design philosophies.
  • Ensure management of change is carried out responsibly.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety in product design and all areas of responsibility.
  • Provide product and operational technical expertise to participate in design reviews.
Lines of Communications:
Internally: SSIG General Manager, SSIG Engineering Team, Vessel Superintendents, Project Managers, Offshore Subsea Engineers, VP Projects, Capex Project Team and QHSE
Externally: End-clients, vessel operations team, 3rd party contractors, and 3rd party inspectors
Qualifications
Education / Training: Bachelor of Science in a Design Engineering discipline required. Mechanical preferred.
Experience (required):
  • Proven experience with mechanical design.
  • Experience with front end engineering, detailed design, design verification, commissioning, QA/QC, and operational support.
  • Proficient with CAD (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD) and PDM systems (e.g., Enterprise PDM).
  • Good PC skills with working knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Understanding of the practical aspects of design with regard to testing, manufacture, and operation.
  • Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality awareness.
  • Good organizational, time management, project management, and administration skills.
  • Ability to work to demanding schedules in a productive manner.
  • Willingness / ability to travel when required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
  • 5 years of experience in a similar position within the oil & gas industry.
  • Proven experience in the subsea engineering environment.
  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with engineering design calculation and analysis packages (e.g., FEA, Mathcad, OrcaFlex).
  • Experience reviewing or performing riser / vessel operability analyses.
  • Experience with well control and/or well intervention (e.g., subsea / surface connectors, valve technology, hydraulics, fabrications).
  • Knowledge of naval architecture and offshore marine operations.
  • Familiar with current industry standards that pertain to well intervention activities (e.g., API 6A, API 16D, API 17D, API 17G, API Std 53, ISO 13628-7).
