How you'll make an impact:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Data Engineer (Infrastructure) to join our dynamic team at SiriusXM. As a Data Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure used by our data professionals in order to fuel innovation, facilitate informed decision-making, and drive sustainable growth. Our mission is to deploy, maintain, and scale the foundation of our data platform, ensuring it serves as a trusted and efficient hub for data-driven insights. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud technologies, data engineering, infrastructure as code, API design, and experience applying software engineering and DevOps best practices.
What you'll do:
- Design, develop, and maintain a robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure like cloud infrastructure, data lake, observability, system integrations, Databricks workspaces.
- Research and recommend new technologies to solve strategic issues.
- Successfully introduce new, relevant technical solutions that provide better productivity, scalability, quality and reliability to the data platform.
- Design and implement data platform features that generally impact multiple components and the work of own and several other team members.
- Set a high coding standard for the data platform team.
- Help others persist when setbacks or obstacles arrive; provide assistance and encouragement. Improve the execution performance of others.
- Stretch the team to develop breakthrough solutions. Encourage people to incorporate varied perspectives to strengthen the innovation process.
- Think broadly about problems and appropriately incorporate new information and concepts when generating solutions.
- Provide documentation for projects that cross multiple teams and systems.
- Write clear and concise documentation for our most complex technical solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data platform infrastructure needs and translate them into effective and user-friendly solutions.
- Implement best practices for data infrastructure designs, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, and minimizing latency in data-related tasks.
- Identify and address bottlenecks in existing data infrastructure to improve overall system performance.
- Design and build observability solutions to monitor resource utilization, cost, quotas etc. and trigger alerts as needed.
- Integrate data platform infrastructure with other systems fostering seamless collaboration among teams e.g. system integration with Fivetran, Monte Carlo, Salesforce Data Cloud, Tableau, Looker, Teradata, Big query.
- Work closely with stakeholders like data scientists, engineers, and analysts to understand their requirements and challenges, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Communicate project status, issues, and solutions effectively to stakeholders and team members.
What you'll need:
- BS/MS or above in Computer Science or related field.
- 8+ years' experience in software development, with a focus on building cloud infrastructure for data professionals (Using Cloud providers like AWS, GCP).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Typescript, Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as CDK or Terraform.
- Experience with data technologies: e.g., Databricks, MapReduce, HDFS, Hive, Spark, Sqoop.
- Experience with streaming technologies: e.g., Kafka, Kafka Connect, Kinesis, Beam, Flink, Spark.
- Knowledge of data storage solutions, database systems, data integrations and data warehousing.
- Experience with CI/CD, build and deployment technologies such as Git, Github Actions, Jenkins.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Databricks is a plus.
- Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
