We're seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer or Licensed Architect experienced in leading projects with a penchant for precision to join our team as an Engineering Project Manager in the dynamic world of the Facilities Division Design and Construction Branch.

You'll be the maestro behind the scenes, orchestrating professional architectural engineering work that brings our projects to life. From crafting scope descriptions to sketching out schematic drawings, you'll be at the helm, ensuring every detail aligns seamlessly.

As our Architect/Engineer Project Manager, you'll design and estimate costs for new buildings and renovations across Navy Exchanges and Lodges worldwide, while also selecting top-notch architectural and engineering firms to bring our visions to fruition.

In this role, you'll be responsible for budget forecasting and cost estimation, ensuring every project, from multi-million-dollar shopping complexes to smaller renovations, is completed within budgetary constraints.

With projects spanning the globe, you'll have the opportunity to oversee construction sites and ensure our standards are met with precision.

A note: this position REQUIRES a current, valid Architecture or Engineering Licensure. Applicants that do not have a valid license will not be considered.

Overview:

Job Summary: Grade: NF05, Salary Code 5A. Licensed architect or engineer as Project Manager in the Facilities Division Design and Construction Branch. Performs professional architectural engineering work in connection with the preparation of scope written descriptions, schematic drawings, and fixture plans of projects. Manages and coordinates design prototype standards, fixture plate schedules, construction, and budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and/or reviews designs and estimated costs of construction of new buildings and renovations of Navy Exchanges, Mini-Marts, Warehouses, and Navy Lodges worldwide.
  2. Assists in selecting architectural and engineering (AE) firms to prepare plans and specifications for projects.
  3. Prepares scope of project, written description, and schematic drawing for advertisement in connection with the selection of A/E firms.
  4. Provides resource forecasts and constraints for NEXCOM departments to support/inform project decisions.
  5. Attends meetings to slate and select qualified A/E firms and participates in technical evaluation review boards.
  6. Reviews and coordinates with executive agents in scheduling, siting problems, and relationships to existing structures.
  7. Monitors construction progress to avoid schedule and budget slippages.
  8. Develops prototype designs, fixture/finish plates, and technical manuals.
  9. Travels extensively to resolve on-site problems and conduct field inspections.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The position requires travel to various locations that may account for 15% of job responsibility.

Requirements:

Architect or Engineer License

Degree in architecture or engineering or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture/engineering or related disciplines, including at least 30 semester hours in architectural/engineering design, and 6 semester hours in structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.

OR

A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and a good understanding of architectural/engineering principles and their applications.

AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Four years of responsible experience demonstrating knowledge of all architectural/engineering aspects of construction/renovation projects including coordinating and developing building design, specifications, and cost estimating.

Candidate must possess a valid architecture or engineering license.
