We are seeking a cleared Staff Chief Engineer for a critical leadership role as a key contributor to the successful completion of RF Communications projects. This is a critical role on our programs with the responsibility for the overall successful completion of assigned projects.

The ideal candidate is expected to possess leadership characteristics to interact as a peer with program leadership including Program Management and Engineering Management, as well as interact with other organizations such as Operations, Supply Chain Management, Material Planning, Manufacturing and Mission Assurance (Quality). The ideal candidate is also expected to possess a strong technical foundation to direct technical tasks for System Engineers and IPT leads on the program.

The candidate is expected to have experience as a technical lead on development programs including experience leading engineers, managing requirements, interacting with customers, tracking program budget and schedule, staffing programs, driving technical tasks to closure, serving as a Cost Account Manager (CAM), managing proposal technical volumes and developing Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for additional work.

This position is perfect for a candidate that can lead a program to produce new hardware products at the Xetron facility that support National Defense partners. The products produced at this facility support all domains of intelligence and defense battle-spaces including land, sea, air and space. Many of the problem-sets our customers expect us to solve do not have known solutions, so ingenuity is essential.

Candidates for this position should have:

  1. Substantial breadth and depth of knowledge in all aspects of engineering with a focus in producing deployable low size weight and power hardware products.
  2. System and/or subsystem design leadership and direct technical contribution with RF/hardware, DSP design, RF communication and RF collection programs.
  3. Previous direct contact with end customers and end operators of our products, which allows for pragmatic and early feedback from the user community during the design process.

Preferred technical background includes experience with design improvements, requirements management, especially in relationship to reliability, maintainability, and supportability.

Examples of programs and products executed at Xetron include:

  • RF collection systems
  • Unique waveform communication products
  • Extremely low power unattended sensors (i.e. low SWaP)
  • Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) devices
  • Innovative Digital Signal Processing (DSP) solutions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or other STEM degree, plus 14 years of progressive experience OR Master of Science degree plus 12 years of progressive experience, OR PhD plus 9 years of progressive experience
  • Experience as an IPT lead, Chief Engineer and SEIT Lead

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, active Top Secret clearance with SCI
  • Experience as an IPT lead, Chief Engineer and SEIT Lead
  • MATLAB knowledge and/or experience
  • Test Engineering and Root Cause Analysis Experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply varied technologies
  • Ability to perform as liaison to the customer for all engineering efforts
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • SAP software knowledge and/or experience

Northrop Grumman has 401k matching and personal growth opportunities. In addition, we offer a flexible work arrangement and the option of a 9/80 or 4/10 work schedule. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work nine-hour days Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. The 4/10 schedule allows employees to work four ten-hour days Monday through Thursday and take off every Friday.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $225,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
