The Effect Platform team, instrumental in stimulating digital creativity, fosters a vibrant ecosystem for global effect designers. Based in the US, our focus is to enhance the designer community's experience through:

• Enhancing new effect capabilities through the implementation of server-side functionalities.
• Strengthening the lifecycle management workflow for all effects.
• Implementing a high performance effect distribution system.
• Building and integrating monetization features to enhance revenue streams.
• Crafting sophisticated data analytics dashboard features to provide key insights.
• Designing and implementing effective incentive schemes to motivate and reward the effect designer community.

As a Senior Backend Engineer in our team, you'll play a key role in shaping this dynamic and ever-evolving platform, significantly contributing to TikTok's continued global impact.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services and APIs to power the effects creation & video content creation on the TikTok platform.
• Work closely with cross functional teams like product managers, designers, and Frontend engineers to deliver state of the art user experience in the above products mentioned.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest backend technologies and incorporate them into the product development process, ensuring our systems stay at the forefront of the industry.
• Ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems to handle high traffic and support a large user base.
• Implement data storage and retrieval mechanisms to support content creation, editing, and sharing.
• Identify and address security vulnerabilities to protect user data and ensure the integrity of the platform.
• Build world-class products end-to-end, which combine usability, accessibility, elegance, performance, and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Practical experience in backend development, with a strong command of one or more programming languages like Java, Python, or Go.
• Proven experience in designing and developing scalable backend systems for high-traffic applications.
• Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructures (e.g. AWS, GCP) and container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of database systems and data modeling, as well as proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with RESTful API design and implementation, and understanding of microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of security best practices and data protection measures for backend systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Excellent team player with good communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 3 years of practical experience in relevant domains.

Job Information
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $194000 - $355000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
