This job was posted by : For more information, please see: Features of Work:This is professional civil engineering work in the development and design oversight of municipal public improvement projects, which requires the ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex problems. Work may involve project management, design of small projects, supervision of technical staff, and communicating with other departments, the general public, contractors and/or consultants. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress towards goal attainments.Examples of Work Performed:Engineering review of water, sewer, drainage, paving and park plans; which includes the review of multiple Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) simultaneouslyOversee the design budget and schedule of multiple CIP projectsReview and acceptance of technical documents such as right-of-way tract maps and legal descriptions, agreements and permitsDesign of small infrastructure projects such as: dirt street paving, utility extensions and parking lot paving projects by establishing plan profile and/or reviewing alignment options from survey dataPrepare and review standard specifications and project specific special provisionsCollaborate in the ongoing development of infrastructure design standards and standard detailsCommunicate with other departments on project design and development as well as issues such as right-of-way acquisition, coordination on planting materials, and construction supportPrepare documentation for City Council agenda itemsUse technology-based mapping tools such as GIS and/or ArcView to aide in the review of plans and determine if additional survey data is neededThese examples are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.Requirements of Work:Knowledge of modern principles and practices of professional engineeringConsiderable knowledge of techniques of design, construction and maintenance of public improvements projects and operating systemsAbility to perform technical research work and to advise on complex infrastructure related problemsAbility to use a computer to access, interpret and record informationAbility to make engineering computations, create estimates and write technical reportsAbility to effectively plan, organize, and supervise the work of othersAbility to occasionally transverse uneven terrain, ascend and descend steps or a ladder, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with construction sitesAbility to lean and reach as needed to read and interpret building plans and specification from a print that may be as large as 36 by 48 inches with information printed as small as thirty characters per inchAbility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the publicAbility to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to acquire and maintain a Kansas Drivers License, as requiredAn employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.Required Experience and Training:Bachelors degree in engineering from ABET accredited university, with a preference for the civil discipline.A registered Professional Engineer in State of Kansas or the ability to acquire it within the probationary period (the first six months of employment).Five years design experience on civil engineering projects in the private sector is preferred.Must have a valid driver\'s license.Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
