Job Summary:
As an Associate Design Engineer in this role, you will work closely with a product group and engineering project lead to assist in the design and development of new and existing equipment tooling utilized by Cat dealers for service and assembly applications. This position performs various design activities that include: design concept development utilizing 3D modeling software, basic to intermediate analysis work ranging from finite element analysis to bolted joint analysis, identify and assist in resolution of design problems, work closely with other Caterpillar teams and suppliers, and manage the development and completion of any required drawings to support the manufacturing of prototype tooling for testing and validation related to your project designs.
What You Will Do:
• Create 3D models of new designs utilizing PTC Creo
• Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents
• Overseeing the efforts of drafting teams to create any manufacturing drawings related to your designs.
• Perform needed analysis activities to aid in development and refinement of designs.
• Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Communicate technical information to team members, other Caterpillar engineering teams and suppliers
• Develop technical documentation for operation of new tools.
Education Requirement:
Associates’ degree within a technical field -Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science

Product Design and Development:
• Working Knowledge of mechanical design practices and methodologies; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs.
Top Candidates will also have:
Proficiency in application of PTC Creo or other parametric 3D modeling and/or simulation tools
Experience with design and development of product tooling for service applications
Experience with manufacturing and/or fabrication
Experience maintaining or operating heavy equipment
Additional Information
The location for this position is Rapid City, SD.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position will require less than 10% travel.
