Traffic Engineer: MDOT State Highway Administration OOTS
BRUDIS & ASSOCIATES, INC. (BAI) is a multidiscipline engineering, environmental and construction management firm in the Mid-Atlantic region. BAI is actively seeking a Traffic Engineer to work on-site at Maryland State Highway Administration's Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS) in Hanover, Maryland.
Job Summary:
The qualified candidate will assist the MDOT SHA OOTS office with the preparation, evaluation, and analysis of various complex, sensitive, and diverse types of technical traffic engineering studies and make recommendations of engineering solutions. The position requires analytical thinking, adaptive and independent problem solving, creativity, innovation, and ability to utilize design engineers to complete task assignments. The qualified candidate shall be dependable, open-minded, focused, and attentive to details including project schedules, budgets, and design quality.
The position will be approximately 50% office-based work and 50% field work. Selected candidates will be expected to perform these services on-site at the OOTS office and in various field sites state-wide. This position will be full-time in-person five days a week.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as the Traffic Engineer/liaison for local and regional projects.
- Reviewing Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP) submissions, Design Requests (DR), Memorandum of Action (MOA),Traffic Impact Studies (TIS), and TCD Plans.
- Perform various traffic engineering data collection and analyses to support corridor and intersection safety and congestion concerns raised by our external and internal customers.
- Develop solutions to enhance safety, increase capacity, and optimize traffic operations by initiating work orders, design requests, and memorandums.
- Convey results and findings to stakeholders via letters, e-mails, phone conversations, and in-person meetings.
- Review and comment on traffic engineering design plans and transportation operational and safety analyses submitted by other District Offices, Office of Highway Design (OHD), Office of Traffic and Safety (OOTS), Office of Structures (OOS), Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering (OPPE), local jurisdictions, and Developers.
- Coordinate other MDOT SHA offices on projects, including attending meetings and drafting comments and/or approval letters/memos on additional necessary or desirable improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BSCE in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in performing traffic engineering studies,
- Working knowledge of the following software: Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, Corsim, SIDRA, HCS, Visum, TransCAD, Cube, ISATe, IHSDM, ArcGIS
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft office products and GIS applications
- Ability to work well within a project team by building relationships and teamwork
- High-level of integrity, ethics, quality service, and safety
- Maintain a positive rapport with supervisor and employees
- Ability to travel to project sites
