UI/UX Designer/Project Manager/Business Analyst – Job Description

The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for working with the development team to design and build a human-centric portal, develop mock-ups of intuitive interfaces, review user experience feedback, and adjust designs accordingly. The role includes working with users to understand use cases, updating and maintaining style guides, and collaborating with development teams to ensure USWDS 3.0 and Section 508 compliant designs.

Responsibilities

1. Evaluate the existing public Portal and identify enhancement opportunities.
2. Facilitate user groups to gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with the product owner.
3. Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
4. Design graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs, and widgets.
5. Build page navigation buttons and search fields.
6. Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how the Portal functions and looks.
7. Create original graphic designs (e.g., images, sketches, and tables).
8. Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders.
9. Participate in User Acceptance Testing and identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g., responsiveness).
10. Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback.
11. Adhere to style standards on fonts, colors, and images.
12. Comply with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requirements.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related analytical, scientific, or technical discipline.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience with analyzing large-scale enterprise systems for usability.
3. Experience with streamlined screen development.
4. Experience with Section 508 Compliance.
5. Demonstrated portfolio of design projects.
6. Work experience with federal agencies.
7. Knowledge of USWDS 3.0.
8. Up-to-date knowledge of design software tools, like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar.
9. Previous experience as a Project Manager and/or Business Analyst is a plus.
10. Team spirit; strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
11. Excellent time-management skills.
