The Customer Reliability Engineer works on-site at a customer facility(s), participating in activities with the customer to comply with the partnership agreement. The engineer makes independent seal and equipment evaluations, selections and recommendations with oversight from the salesman and/or regional engineer. Also, they may lead one or more customer reliability personnel at a customer facility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews customer applications proactively and makes specific recommendations for MTBR improvement with oversight from the salesman and/or the regional engineer.
  • Analyzes and evaluates specific customer applications, then submits recommendations for improvement via the John Crane Application Data Information Sheet for approval.
  • Directs the installation and commissioning of mechanical seals and their auxiliary support systems.
  • Observes, collects, and evaluates customer data while working with the salesman and/or regional engineer, then reports seal program results utilizing John Crane’s current reliability management software, e.g., INTERFACE or ServiceMax.
  • Analyzes the equipment survey for inventory optimization opportunities within current consignment management guidelines.
  • Communicates orally and in writing with customers, company personnel, and vendors, providing counseling, recommendations, and technical assistance, which may include making technical presentations to customers or management with oversight from the salesman and/or the regional engineer.
  • Provides customer training for maintenance and operations personnel as required.
  • Assists customers with the Management of Change process.
  • Collects new equipment data sheets from customer project engineers for review by the salesman and/or regional engineer.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

The Individual

  • Requires an Engineering Bachelor’s Degree, Mechanical Engineering highly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with mechanical seals and/or rotating equipment required.
  • Experience as a customer reliability technician and/or practical work experience in the customer’s industry preferred.
  • Must also have experience with assembly/testing and the ability to use precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with good problem-solving skills, including the ability to gather, correlate, and present statistical data for review and use by others toward the completion of an assigned project.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $75,000-$90,000 per year based on level of experience. A discretionary onsite bonus is also available once the employee is placed at the customer worksite.
