Provides technical leadership during NPI (new product introduction), product commercialization and production start-up of new products. This includes offshore sourced equipment. Supports sales at customers locations during installation of new equipment and field issue resolution.Design, development and test of the new generation of automation products.Perform root-cause analysis and proactively come up with improvement proposals that have an impact in the short and long term (continuous improvement).Ability to bring innovative new ideas & technologies and implement them into projects.Participates in design projects, customized products, optimizing existing productsDrawing up structured development plans, documentation, drawings and calculationsSupport the commercialization of new productsMaintain regular contacts with both internal / external customers and suppliers. Attend customer meetings and address technical challenges.Responsible for technical execution and proactively thinks about issues and takes steps to address technical topics before becoming issues. Aligns with project timeline.Administration, sharing and reporting of activities related to assigned project (technical reviews, design review, etc.)Mechanical design of simple to complex equipment including prototypes, evaluation, testing, installation, and troubleshooting. Delegates technical tasks. Challenge and grow indirect reports. Check work completed by other engineers.Raises concerns to sr. level and seeks support to mitigate issuesCreate and support technical/design requirements document and capture customer requirementsSupport creation of technical manuals, engineering BOM, spare parts list, etc.Use of 2D and 3D software to generate complete machine assembly drawings and detailed components. Responsible for design concept and layout using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.Develop test plans, operation manuals, and other pertinent documentation.Performs engineering design calculations and participates in product design decisions. Makes all mechanical component selections. Must have experience with material selection, manufacturing techniques and design for manufacturability.Ability to select and install automation components such as servomotor, electric actuator, safety switch, etc.Understanding of automation equipment performance metrics such as availability, OEE - Overall equipment effectiveness, etc.Provides technical leadership to Drafters to develop detailed drawings from layouts.Qualifications:A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is requiredAt least 8 years of relevant work experience in an R&D or engineering position within a technical work environmentTechnical lead for highly complicated Sales/NPI projects & Level 3/4 CP’sSolidWorks CAD experience is required (at least 2 years with modeling, print creation and PDM/PLM)At least 6 years of design and automation experience (machine building experience preferred).Ability to manage multiple projectsPrefer SAP system experienceAbility to provide technical leadership to indirect reports.Ability to divide project work scope among team members and ensure completion by deadlinesAbility to mitigate project hurdles and communicate to senior (leadership) stakeholders including external customersA broad interest, varying from equipment assembly to process technologyA driven personality who persists even when it becomes difficult and can work independentlyWilling to travel up to 20% of the time.Good team member and comfortable working with global teamsGood interpersonal skills-maturity, poise and engineering approach.
