The work you’ll do at Applied will meaningfully accelerate the efforts of the top autonomy teams in the world. At Applied, you will have a unique perspective on the development of cutting-edge technology while working with major players across the industry and the globe. Applied Intuition provides software solutions to safely develop, test, and deploy autonomous vehicles at scale. The company’s suite of simulation, validation, and drive log management software enables development teams to create thousands of scenarios in minutes, run simulations at scale, and verify and validate algorithms for production deployment. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices in Detroit, Washington, D.C., Munich, Stockholm, Seoul, and Tokyo, Applied consists of software, robotics, and automotive experts with experiences from top global companies. Leading autonomy programs and 17 of the top 20 global OEMs use Applied’s solutions to bring autonomy to market faster.

About The Role

We are looking for a software engineer with expertise in motion planning for autonomous vehicles or mobile robots. Among your responsibilities will be the development of planning modules that can provide traversable, kinematically-feasible trajectories for a vehicle to follow in difficult off-road terrain with static and dynamic positive and negative obstacles. The modules you develop must be high performance due to critical timing, thermal, and power constraints.

In addition to your engineering contributions, by working in our dynamic and customer-focused team culture, you will contribute to and learn from best practices in the nascent autonomy industry. We move fast and focus on excellence, for our products and for our business. If you are hands-on and looking for a place to have a multiplying effect on making autonomous systems a reality, Applied is the place for you!

At Applied, you will:

  • Design and implement planning modules that can be deployed on off-road vehicles for autonomous navigation
  • Leverage a priori maps and the outputs of a perception system to determine environmental costs to use in the planning system you develop
  • Deploy your planning modules to production hardware and test in the field
  • Collaborate with customers’ engineers and manage customer relationships

We're looking for someone who has:

  • A passion for tackling challenging planning problems involving a wide array of vehicles in challenging off-road environments
  • 3+ years of experience building production software using modern software practices
  • Experience developing planning solutions for autonomous vehicles or other mobile robots
  • Fluency in search algorithms, vehicle dynamics, and writing high-performance C++ code
  • Enthusiasm for coming up with practical solutions to cutting-edge challenges in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have:

  • A MSc or PhD in computer science or applied mathematics with coursework or research experience in planning
  • Experience writing software that is compliant with guidelines for safety-critical C++ code, such as MISRA and AUTOSAR
  • Hands-on experience developing and testing planning algorithms in the field
  • Experience working with large industrial vehicles in off-road environments

The salary range for this position is $65,000 USD to $400,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the Company's compensation practices.
