SolidWorks Designer at Osage Piping & Fabricating, Inc.


This position displays efficient use of software, technologies, and resources. The SolidWorks Designer will promote and protect the organizational culture by modeling and supporting the core values, demonstrating a high degree of teamwork, and committing to ongoing professional development. This position encourages a collaborative approach to working with the other members of the engineering team and the shop floor employees. The SolidWorks Designer reports directly to the Senior Designer.


Key Roles:


  • Program press brake.
  • Uphold engineering standards and drawing methods.
  • Modify and detail existing drawing sets.
  • Develop BOM’s and enter into ERP system.
  • Support the implementation of an ERP system.
  • Process redlines for existing drawings sets and maintain revision history.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Create detailed drawings and models using SolidWorks from supplied concepts and designs.
  • Convert/export engineered designs and customer files into formats for manufacturing.
  • Ensure customer supplied designs are manufacturable.
  • Program CNC press brake and collaborate with press brake operator to generate safe efficient programs.
  • Accurately Modify models & detailed drawings within SolidWorks.
  • Check design and fabrication drawings.
  • Organize files & drawing sets.
  • Assist sales and engineering departments with engineering documentation.
  • Create items, bills of materials, etc. using ERP systems.
  • Compile drawings & work orders before sending them to the shop floor.
  • Collaborate with teammates & participate in the design and engineering process.
  • Maintain material certification documents for incoming raw materials and outgoing projects.

Working closely with senior team members, this position will gain the understanding of our manufacturing process and work to build the skills to take product concepts to manufacturable designs. Goals for this position include developing strong SolidWorks skills and Design procedures. 


Required Skills/Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Basic understanding of Sheetmetal fabrication.
  • Ability to “Design for change” through SolidWorks best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of welding practices and standards.


Education and Experience:


  • High School Diploma 
  • Two years relevant experience or appropriate tech school required.


Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
