Job Requirements / Description

OpenStore is reimagining the future of e-commerce. Leveraging technology and our expertise in operating the most Shopify stores in the world, we acquire stores and offer managed services to Shopify entrepreneurs. In doing so, we’ve provided millions of dollars to entrepreneurs all over the country, helping them turn their stores into passive income and freeing up their time to start something new.

In the near future, we’re bringing spontaneous discovery to online shopping through a consumer marketplace. Our company was started in 2021 by top investor and operator, Keith Rabois, and is backed with $150M+ from investors such as Atomic, Founders Fund, General Catalyst, Khosla Ventures and Lux Capital.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Join OpenStore as a Backend Engineer where you'll play a crucial role in shaping and building our e-commerce platform. You will be immersed in ambitious projects that challenge and enhance your engineering craftsmanship and excellence. Collaborate with a team of exceptional engineers to define and execute the technical aspects of our vision. Work closely with engineers of all levels and contribute to building the best e-commerce engine in the world.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  1. You are autonomous in your ability to discover opportunities that unlock massive leverage for the company.
  2. Design, develop, ship, and maintain complex/ambiguous features and services independently and/or alongside other engineers as peers.
  3. Drive and articulate forward looking architecture of systems/frameworks within your domain; e.g. strategically significant initiatives that drive an increase in innovation pace and reliability standards, in measured ways.
  4. Build the technical vision and roadmap that generate business value and optionality for your team and contribute to such across the entire company.
  5. Mentor and up-level the engineers around you.
  6. Identify and bring to life tools and other forms of leverage to be consumed by the company; including helping to decide when to build systems to increase our in-house leverage versus selecting from externally available 3rd party tools.
  7. Partner with and wear multiple hats across product, design, engineering and operations.

WHO YOU ARE:

  1. You like to build and ship. You value iteration, speed and progress over perfection. You choose to be optimistic but have a plan. You think strategically about prioritization while constantly delivering to unlock feedback and new directions.
  2. You thrive in fast-paced environments. You are highly self motivated to do right by those internal and external and foster a growth mentality to achieve both.
  3. You are analytically rigorous. You have a bias towards using data and analyses to make decisions. You have interest in measuring the performance of your features and understanding their contribution to company KPIs.
  4. You are collaborative, organized, and thoughtful. You actively solicit feedback and are flexible to getting things done individually or through teammates you influence. You embrace intellectual rigor as a feature of improvement, not a relationship bug.
  5. You are curious: You possess a desire to learn and explore new ideas. You like to ask insightful questions and explore innovative solutions. You are not satisfied with surface-level answers, but like to uncover underlying principles and insights.
  6. You are an owner: You take full responsibility for your work. You see challenges as opportunities and take initiative to drive results. Your focus is not only on fulfilling your role but also on contributing to the broader goals and success of the team. You proactively identify issues, propose solutions, and follow through to ensure successful outcomes.

WHAT YOU HAVE:

  1. 2-8+ years of prior software engineering experience.
  2. You strive for technical excellence in your domain.
  3. You have an interest and/or track record to building scaled systems that tackle difficult problems.
  4. You exemplify a winning team oriented mentality.
  5. Familiarity with or willingness to learn TypeScript and Kotlin stack.
  6. Familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem is a nice-to-have.
