The Corpus Christi District is recruiting for a highly motivated Transportation Engineer V to support our Project Management and Consultant Contracts sections in Transportation Planning and Development. Position Description
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
Education : Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience : 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Position Description
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
- Analyzes and reports on advanced and highly complex program funding change scenarios and their impact to individual project schedules
- Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for highly complex projects.
- Oversees and develops plans for complex project(s) related to their resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and/or procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.
- Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team.
- Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Coordinates with local Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to develop annual Transportation Improvement Program and long and short-range transportation plans for the area.
- Coordinates with other Divisions and Districts on contracting issues and serves as the point of contact for their professional services contracting program
- Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Formulates, develops and/or monitors budgets and financial information.
- Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
- Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
- Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance
- Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts
- Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
