INQUIRIES: Thomas Kerr (Hawaii).Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai'i/lnfrared Telescope (UH/IRT), also known as the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT), located in Hilo, Hawai'i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: ($4,600 - $6,600){#_Hlk177978777}/Mon.DUTIES: Provides electronics technical support for the daily operations of the UKIRT at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawai'i. Performs on-site troubleshooting and repair of equipment. Operates the telescope and scientific instruments for diagnostic and maintenance purposes. Operates specialized forklift and mobile elevating work platform. Works on instrument exchanges, telescope top-end changes (secondary mirror and its support system), and primary mirror recoating. Drives project vehicles to access facility at the summit. Maintains a clean and safe working environment. Documents new work procedures and equipment. Works and updates with technical documentation maintained in a computerized database. Determines needs and initiates purchases as needed. Manages inventory of parts and equipment. Advises other staff on aspects of repair and maintenance. Works closely with other members of the UKIRT team, in particular with UKIRT engineers and the Director of Technical Operations. Must be available for 'on call' technical emergencies as required.PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATIONVocational School Degree or Certification in electronics fabrication, maintenance, and repair.EXPERIENCEThree to five (3-5) years of experience in construction, modification, and maintenance of electronics systems.KNOWLEDGEConsiderable working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques in the use of diagnostic equipment and repair tools. Knowledge of electrical and electronics maintenance and troubleshooting and of the hazards and safety precautions involved in maintenance and repair work of complex equipment.ABILITIES and SKILLSAbility to operate specialized forklift and mobile elevating work platform. Ability to understand and follow blueprints, sketches, technical documentation, oral and written instructions. Ability to plan complex work procedures. Able to use tools in an appropriate manner on complex repair work. Demonstrated ability to resolve complex electronics problems to determine the cause and to plan the resolution of the problem in an effective, innovative, and timely manner. Ability to present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other documents. Ability to operate a personal computer, word processing software, email, and video conferencing software. Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver's insurance equivalent to Hawai'i's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain through the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must possess specialized forklift operator certification (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment). Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.PHYSICA /MEDICAL DEMANDSMust be able to lift and carry at least sixty (60) pounds unassisted, climb ladders, work in an enclosed space and height up to fifty (50) feet. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to work at 14,000 feet elevation and pass a post offer high-altitude medical examination.POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT
