We are hiring a Software Development Engineer (SDE) within the Outposts Installation and Provisioning team. We are looking for a hands-on professional who is passionate about owning and continuously improving end-to-end technical processes through software solutions. Working backwards from our customer's needs, you will be challenged to think big and support Outpost fleet lifecycle activities by designing, building, and troubleshooting event-driven services that operate at a massive scale. The vision is clear and your ingenuity, experience, and customer obsession will drive the innovation cycle's planning and execution.

A successful candidate will be customer focused, passionate about using software to solve complex problems, and able to balance delivering incremental improvements with long-term vision. A deep technical understanding and a desire to learn about complex systems is a must as you will bridge processes across many nuanced and complex systems. Solid software development fundamentals and systems design skills will provide the foundation for your initial onboarding as you are coached and mentored by engineering and technical business experts to keep you on your desired career trajectory. Key job responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
  2. Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
  3. Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
  4. Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
  5. Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.

A day in the life

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for the hands-on implementation of software solutions to business problems, diving deep into complex issues, and designing the next big thing with scale in mind. You will have opportunities to grow professionally through code reviews, design reviews, and formal mentorship from senior engineers.

Our team is focused on developing highly-scalable software solutions that orchestrate host lifecycle activities for hardware at customer sites around the world. You will work with subject matter experts in enterprise compute hardware, operating systems, networking, and customer-facing APIs to deliver the best customer experience in edge cloud computing. Basic Qualifications

  1. 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  2. 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  3. Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  2. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
