Job Title: Controls IOT Engineer Job Description

The client prepares new manufacturing processes and supports production activities by continuously improving safety, quality, and productivity while reducing downtime and environmental impact. The client employs various manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, press break and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic welding, paint/powder coat, engine assembly, drive train assembly, and final fork truck assembly. The primary responsibility for the controls group is to support production engineering for all capital projects, identifying innovative technologies for implementation on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Support production engineering for all capital projects.

  • Identify and implement innovative technologies in manufacturing processes.

  • Work with integrators to build and implement controls and electrical integration of equipment from cradle to grave.

  • Prepare specifications, obtain quotes, prepare approval documents, and seek project approvals.

  • Procure control panels, radio remote pushbuttons, wired inputs, and LCD monitors.

  • Coordinate contractor work, including physical installation, electrical connections, and network connections.

  • Prepare PLC programs and connect PLCs to the Indusoft service.

  • Map memory locations and prepare visualizations for display on monitors using Indusoft.

  • Investigate project requests and clarify desired outcomes.

  • Estimate and quote costs for purchased components, prepare approval documents, and obtain project approvals.

  • Procure required hardware and coordinate installation of hardware/wiring.

  • Integrate new hardware within PLC programs and make necessary changes within machine control PLC and HMI systems.

  • Prepare SQL database tables, set user and role security settings, and write stored procedures to extract data for display.

  • Complete communication and scripting setup to store data from PLCs using Ignition, Kepware, or other middleware systems.

  • Prepare front-end and back-end logic to retrieve and display data to solve initial problems or achieve desired improvements.

  • Investigate available marketplace options for products or technologies, evaluate potential use cases, and summarize benefits, drawbacks, and risks.

  • Prepare company standards for product selection, application, and exception handling.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.

  • Experience with new equipment controls integration.

  • PLC Integration experience (Omron preferred, but Mitsubishi or others considered).

  • 5+ years of experience (3+ years if highly relevant).

  • Experience with industrial control system design and troubleshooting (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and Servos).

  • Understanding of industrial networks, including shop floor equipment, production servers, and office workstations.

  • Experience developing and working with SQL.

  • Proficiency in programming languages/methods (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, Python, VB / VBA).

  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Angular, Azure, MQTT, MT Connect.

  • Experience with one or more of the following data sources: MS SQL Server, IBM DB2, SAP.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in software and app development.

  • Ability to prepare standards documents and achieve consensus among different groups.
