Amida is currently looking for a Data Engineer to join our team in Washington, DC. In this role you will work across our client engagements, providing expertise in machine learning algorithms, natural language processing (NLP), data collection, data analysis, data mapping, data profiling, data mining, data modeling, and data visualization. You will architect data science solutions on the cloud using AWS or Azure data science services and participate in the implementation of the solutions. You will help with the business development activities and will be responsible to describe data science solutions in our proposals.

What You Will Do:
You will be working on a long-term healthcare data integration effort for one of our largest federal customers. You will be responsible for providing data integration and analysis services working principally with Microsoft SQL Server, though may work across a number of technologies and in several other disciplines including data modeling and data science, working with data lake-based solutions.

  • Provide data engineering support by mapping Electronic Health Record data between source systems and data models
  • Translate data between systems and implement code to perform the requisite data transformations
  • Evaluate data for quality or formatting issues
  • Use your experience in healthcare to understand and transform data appropriately and safely
  • Lend your expertise to aligned efforts including the creation of a new comprehensive healthcare data model, cloud migration, and implementation of a data lake

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of recent professional experience in database architecture, database engineering, data analysis, data mining, and/or data science
  • Experience in creating, optimizing, and running Transact-SQL queries in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience working with healthcare data, preferably Electronic Health Record data
  • An in-depth understanding of the terminologies, code sets, and standards of healthcare data
  • Experience in data migration to include data mapping and data profiling
  • B.S. in a field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Database Engineering, or Management Information Systems
  • Ability to communicate concisely and persuasively with software engineers and clients
  • Ability to work with the federal government

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working with non-Transact-SQL databases and SQL dialects, preferably Oracle PL/SQL or Cerner Command Language
  • Experience provisioning, using, and optimizing Microsoft Azure services
  • Experience using Erwin for data modelling
  • Experience working for the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Electronic Health Record VistA
  • Experience working with Cerner's Electronic Health Record Millennium
  • Experience large-scale data analysis systems, such as Databricks, Hadoop, Pig, Scala, Spark or MPP databases
  • Experience working with Apache Parquet and/or Delta Lake formatted data
