The company has a long-standing history of executing its core operations, aligned with sustainable best practices, through its commitments to safety, affordability, customer service, protecting the environment, an inclusive workforce and strengthening communities.American Water has been recognized on the 2023 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Indexfor the fifth consecutive year, ranked 18th on Barron\'s 100 Most Sustainable U.S. Companies 2023 List, earned the U.S. Department of Homeland Security SAFETY Act designation and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\'s WaterSense Excellence Award, among additional state, local and national recognitions.For more information, visit amwater.com and join American Water on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.Primary Role**Position will be based in our Urbana, IL office**Responsible for Planning, Design, Engineering Calculations and Construction related to Lead & Copper Service Line Replacements.#LI-DM1Key AccountabilitiesProvide support services to Engineer and/or Engineering Manager for activities including planning functions, design, facility layout, cost estimates and/or basic engineering calculations.Assist on capital and maintenance projects, including preparation of contract documents, drawings and specifications.Prepare and maintain files, records, drawings, reports, budgets and other data related to engineering projects.Perform field surveys to obtain measurements and/or stake easements and perform field inspections to insure standards are met and proper records are kept.Manage projects of limited scope or portions of larger scope projects under the supervision of the Engineering Manager.Correspond with other entities and customers regarding the status of projects relative to their proposed improvements.Knowledge/SkillsAbility to oversee and monitor construction work for adherence to project plans and specifications.Ability to work with minimal guidance on varied engineering planning, design and construction related assignments under the direction of an Engineer or other supervisory personnel.Possess strong, detail oriented, analytical, and conceptual skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.Ability to interpret meets and bounds property descriptions.Knowledge of and ability to apply theoretical and practical engineering principles to perform basic engineering (hydraulic, mechanical, etc.) related functions.Knowledge of design and engineering terminology.Knowledge of company standards and procedures. Knowledge of property (easement rights).Computer literacy including a major word processor program, spreadsheet, graphics and/or CADExperience/EducationMinimum 5 years\' experience as an Engineering Technician or related experience preferred.Associate\'s Degree or Technical School equivalent with course work in Drafting and Engineering required, or equivalent experience.Certifications & LicensesValid driver\'s license.Work EnvironmentInside office, and outside jobsites or customer homes.
