Automation Assistant Chief Engineer

The Job Details: The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall safety and efficiency of the facility. They will work closely with the Chief Engineer to ensure that the refrigeration system is in good working condition and perform required repairs when needed. Further, the Assistant Chief Engineer will assist with the training and development of their team, focusing on leading new projects and initiatives within the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the current Chief Engineer to ensure safe and efficient operation of the facility's refrigeration systems, material handling equipment, and maintain all aspects of facility infrastructure and grounds.
• Train and manage daily tasks of maintenance personnel.
• Perform duties to plan, schedule, supervise, operate, maintain, and repair as needed.
• Schedule and manage facility projects.
• Train all employees in various safety and regulatory compliance topics.
• Be on call 24/7/365.
• Oversee and maintain the process safety management plan.
• Participate on the Emergency Response Team.
• Establish and maintain a high level of professionalism that supports collaboration and problem-solving while building strong working relationships with various stakeholders including facility management, subordinates, and vendors.
• Keep all necessary records for refrigeration, electrical, automatic sprinkler, hot water, compressed air, fire systems, handling equipment, and building/grounds in compliance with warehouse needs.
• Supervise contractors and approve contractor bills for payment.
• Assist with capital and major repairs budgeting.
• Oversee facility projects and ensure timely completion of required tier projects.
• Dedicate time to vendor and contract negotiations to ensure projects maintain financial success.

What We Are Looking For:

Education:

• High School Degree required. Additional education preferred.
• RETA Certified Recommended.
• Must pass Emergency Response Physical (Lung Capacity and Auditory Testing conducted annually).

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years experience in maintenance and operation of industrial refrigeration systems including 2 years in a senior position.
• Strong knowledge in federal and state regulatory compliance programs including but not limited to OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Programs.
• Working knowledge of the public refrigerated warehouse (PRW) industry.
• Working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems (e.g. anhydrous ammonia).
• Working knowledge of the functions of various material handling equipment (e.g. forklifts, pallet jacks, lead acid batteries, battery chargers, etc.).
• Knowledge of capital and major repair budgeting.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and P&IDs.
• Knowledge of refrigeration control systems, microprocessors, and asset management systems (e.g. Infor EAM).
• Knowledge of mechanics and mechanical skills.
• Understanding of automation, system, software, and processes.

• Bend and lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
• Good arithmetic, reading, and typing skills.
• Lift up to 70 lbs. with assistance on an occasional basis.
• Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
• Be able to speak and hear for safety and productivity.
• Use scanners, tablets, radio, phones, and other warehouse machinery.
• Ability to lift overhead.
• Ability to work overtime is essential due to demand.
• Drive a registered motor vehicle to satisfy daily requirements.
• Have acceptable and/or correctable vision.
• Work in an atmosphere range of +50 to -30 degrees F with a moderate noise level.
• Personal interaction and communication required to and from other people is extremely high.
• Understand and follow verbal instruction, written instruction, and company policies.
• A self-starter that can work independently and coordinate with others.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage stress and productivity guidelines.

• Participate in Safety and Educational Training.
