The Electrical Engineer Level 1 researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develop controls, instruments, and systems for marine, defense, oil & gas and industrial applications.
  2. Create and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.
  3. Integrate electrical systems with other systems such as hydraulic controls, hydraulic power units, and ship onboard systems. Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
  4. Direct activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  5. Direct and coordinate the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations.
  6. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency. Stay updated with advancements in electrical engineering and incorporate new technologies and best practices.
  7. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  8. Provide sustaining engineering support to operations, technical support, application development, and sales and marketing for design-related issues with existing products.
  9. Additional responsibilities include schematic capture, electrical component selection, layout supervision, coordinating product regulatory certification, and product release documentation.
  10. Mentor less experienced engineers.
  11. Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001 and understand the implications of not complying with the quality management system.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university or closely related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • Four or more years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of marine electrical systems, standards, and regulations is a plus.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong electrical design and debugging skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of I/O (PCI) Bus structures and their dependencies.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word is required for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong interest in analog circuit design and analysis. Must enjoy hands-on electronic circuit work.
  • Knowledge of the design and analysis of fundamental switching regulator and converter topologies, including flybacks, buck, and boost.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to formulate and document a high-level plan with input from many functional groups.
  • Ability to communicate ideas persuasively, gain support and commitment from others, inspire others to take action, and lead by example.
  • Ability to organize and assign work to best use the skills, knowledge, and experience of employees.
  • Ability to maintain positive interactions with staff and management.
  • Ability to work under pressure of schedules.
