Design Engineer

Entry level Electrical Engineer at the Power Engineering Division. Will work on challenging projects in heavy industrial facilities and electrical utility companies. Will collaborate with a licensed professional engineer and industry professionals to design electrical systems that comply with safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer in a variety of projects to create the design documents for the installation of electrical switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, batteries, lighting panels, breakers, starters, motors, duct-banks, and electrical heat trace.
• Perform on site walk-downs at industrial facilities to evaluate existing electrical distribution equipment.
• Conduct electrical equipment size calculations in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Perform electrical coordination and protection analysis with electrical engineering software SKM.
• Perform cable pulling analysis to evaluate cable pulling tension and sidewall pressure with electrical engineering software SKM.
• Perform electrical derating analysis to evaluate conductor temperature and ampacity with electrical engineering software SKM.
• Perform electrical heat trace analysis to size equipment with electrical engineering software CompuTrace.
• Draft construction drawings with AutoCAD software for the installation of electrical equipment, subject to review and approval by a licensed professional engineer.
• Effectively communicate and collaborate with the client through the creation of construction drawings.
• Collaborate with a licensed professional engineer in the selection and integration of electrical equipment.
• Collaborate with the project manager in the preparation of project proposals, and cost estimates.
• Stay informed and up to date on industry standards, particularly the National Electrical Code (NEC), to ensure compliance and proficiency in the electrical design and installation practices.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or an architectural engineering degree with an emphasis in electrical engineering.
• Special skills or requirements are eligible to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam or passed exam.
• Eligible for intern Engineer Credentials.
