Position Summary

The Systems Engineer performs engineering evaluations for project and product proposals including: assessing the technical feasibility, determining the estimated cost and schedule, coordinating the technical response, and providing review and evaluation of product requirements to Product Management and/or Sales.

The Systems Engineer develops technical requirements by generating the flow down of these requirements, developing and managing the system architecture, ensuring integration and compatibility of system components, and optimizing system performance and efficiency.

Primary Job Functions

Systems Engineer

  • Plan, execute and deliver multiple engineering deliverables concurrently, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Create Product Specifications documenting the technical requirements (product specific, project specific, or both) for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical response between Engineering teams.
  • Generate technical requirements flow down from business requirements.
  • Develop and manage system architecture.
  • Ensure integration and compatibility of system components during Pre-Sales process.
  • In-person evaluations of vendor products during technical evaluation.
  • Optimize system performance and efficiency.
  • Create system performance and reliability reports.
  • Develop Verification & Validation (V&V) plans for technical requirements.
  • Manage product configuration lifecycle.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, product, and quality assurance teams.
  • Provide the technical point of contact between Sales and Engineering.
  • Coordinate and manage the cost and bill of materials of equipment provided by Engineering.

Qualifications (Education & Work Experience)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects, from conception to delivery.
  • Strong project management or program management skills, with the ability to develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Smartsheets preferred.
  • Experience in the power industry preferred.

Tools & Equipment

  • General office equipment including phones, fax, personal computer.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Certificates/Licenses

  • PE License (preferred), but not required.

  • Travel required. No more than 15% within the U.S. and Canada.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

The national pay range for this role is $120,000 - $150,000 / year and is considered a Level P3 – Career Professional Individual Contributor role. This pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, and location. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in an annual discretionary bonus.
