POSITION SUMMARY:
Students chosen to participate in the Co-Op program will spend several weeks engaged in one or more exciting projects with members of the New Product Development (NPD) team at White River Marine Group.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Projects may include some or all of the following tasks:
Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.

White River Marine Group
Students chosen to participate in the Co-Op program will spend several weeks engaged in one or more exciting projects with members of the New Product Development (NPD) team at White River Marine Group.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Projects may include some or all of the following tasks:
- Works closely with Industrial Designers through the various stages of New Product Development.
- Provides engineering expertise in the selection of raw materials and manufacturing processes, as well as structural designs and compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
- Works closely with Computer Aided Design Technicians in the preparation of fully detailed 3D CAD models for structural and hydrodynamic analysis.
- Develops and maintains databases of material properties via technical data sheets or through experimental testing.
- Performs stress analysis via FEA software on various marine structures including but not limited to: seats, fasteners, trailers, superstructures, platforms, ski pylons, hulls/decks/stringers made of fiberglass composite, aluminum or plastic.
- Determines appropriate safety margins based on sound engineering practices and appropriate regulatory standards.
- Works closely with sourcing staff and vendors in the screening, evaluation, and comparative testing of current and future raw materials.
- Employs design of experiments and various ASTM, ISO, or ABYC standardized mechanical testing to determine suitability of materials for specific applications.
- Works closely with fiberglass tooling shop technicians to gain an understanding of the open and closed molding techniques. Works hands-on to build multiple molded parts or production tooling molds.
- May perform some aspects of Computer Aided Design such as 3D modeling, technical drawings, component packaging, etc.
- ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
- Minimum Degree Required: Working towards a four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Marine Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- Preferred Degree: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Certificate(s) or License(s): CATIA or SOLIDWORKS certifications are a plus
- Experience: Junior or Senior level engineering student
- Overall GPA: 3.0/4.0 or higher
- Ability to translate designs into physical mock-ups and solid or surface models using computer aided design software.
- Familiar with common power tools and equipment used for fabrication in wood, metal, plastic, or fiberglass.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Independent thinker and problem solver.
- Catia experience preferred.
- Experience with finite element analysis or other physics-based simulation software preferred.
- This position is located within a comfortable office environment at White River Marine Group Headquarters in Springfield, MO. Projects may be co-located in a manufacturing plant and may involve frequent liaison trips to plants or local lakes.
