Job Description

Volant Partners, Inc is seeking an Advisory Software Engineer to assist our clients with the development and deployment of their products. Responsibilities will vary by client project, but the selected candidate will lead and contribute to areas such as software design and architecture, software planning and estimation, software development and testing, updates and defect repair of systems developed by the customer. In addition, responsibilities will include working closely with all members of the development team throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure smooth delivery according to project milestones.

As subject matter experts, selected candidates will use their depth of full stack software development knowledge to perform these tasks and introduce best practices to our clients. Successful candidates will be self-starters that are comfortable in situations where success is dependent on quickly understanding client challenges and addressing them.

This individual must have excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and be able to communicate effectively with different engineering disciplines, project, and client leadership.

Our positions are hybrid of remote with on-site client work at times, so we are only seeking candidates in the greater Seattle area.

Typical Responsibilities

1. Advise in architecting software solutions to fulfill project requirements.
2. Confer with users to define requirements and resolve problems.
3. Perform software development, coding, testing, and review activities.
4. Support design, estimation, and planning activities.
5. Champion software development best practices on their project.
6. Enable the project team to produce a quality product.
7. May lead and mentor more junior engineers.

Required Qualifications

1. 10+ years of full stack software development experience.
2. Excellent knowledge of front-end web programming, such as HTML, CSS, Node.js, TypeScript, Bootstrap, and React, with ability to render server-side and client-side content.
3. Excellent knowledge in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, Kotlin, Rust).
4. Strong fundamentals in operating systems and network protocols.
5. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
6. Experience with project management tools such as Jira.
7. Demonstrated experience with industry standard software development best practices for Agile and Iterative SDLCs, development methodologies, implementation, and deployment activities.
8. Experience in everyday use of software version control systems (git).
9. Experience in a continuous integration environment (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins).
10. Standard knowledge of relational and schemaless databases.
11. Experience in working with configuration managed requirements.
12. As a consultant, ability to effectively coordinate with client stakeholders and/or end users.
13. Fluent English in speech and writing (frequent communication with English-speaking clients).
14. Must be a US Person - U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in technical course of study preferred.
2. Experience working in regulated industries such as defense, aerospace, health, or automotive.
3. Experience working in a consulting or engineering services company.
4. Experience with Mobile-first, responsive web applications, and native mobile applications.
5. Experience with Cloud-native & hybrid projects.
6. Experience with application, architectural, or database refactoring.
7. Experience leading other engineers.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is currently $160,000 to $199,000 based on current market data. Actual compensation will depend on the successful candidates’ work location, qualifications, skills, and depth of experience. As an employee-owned company, the total compensation for this position will include Stock Options and eligibility for the Utilization, VP Accelerator and Profit-Sharing bonus programs. Our comprehensive benefits include 401k matching; medical, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible spending accounts; life and disability insurance; and a generous company contribution to an HSA account. Employees will also receive 15 days paid vacation and 10 days paid sick leave each year, as well as 10 paid holidays scheduled throughout the calendar year.
