This role supports the development and operations of a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As the Sr. Manager for the New Glenn Stage, you will report to the Director of New Glenn Stage 1 Forward Module and have responsibility for implementing the design, development, test, and production of the first stage heavy lift vehicle mechanical systems scope including hydraulics, APU, separation systems, fin actuation systems and associated scope. This position will encompass all aspects of program management to include cost, schedule, technical design, and risk management as well as working with Blue Origin internal organizations and suppliers to deliver qualified mechanical systems. You will set team technical direction requiring a wide application of sophisticated engineering principles, theories and concepts and knowledge of other related subject areas. You will lead and manage the team with impact on all aspects of launch vehicle mechanical systems engineering. You will closely coordinate with supplier management and internal manufacturing organizations to execute first-time system builds while solving schedule and technical issues as they arise. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  1. Meet and exceed aggressive schedule, cost, and performance requirements.
  2. Plan and coordinate the resources vital to successfully design, build, test, and certify the New Glenn Stage 1 mechanical systems scope.
  3. Lead team in source selection for all mechanical systems procured commodities, supplier selection and management.
  4. Lead the mechanical systems design and development through the entire lifecycle to include production.
  5. Identify, supervise, and mitigate risks to technical performance, cost, and schedule.
  6. Lead team to develop and document system design to support operations, integration, manufacturing, and quality.
  7. Lead and develop the team through hiring, training, and mentoring while providing technical leadership.
  8. Meet recurring cost target and lead risk and opportunities to per flight cost requirement.
  9. Support commercial and government launch customer requests for information, proposals, and alternate use cases.
  10. Establish, maintain, and report on team safety products, fault trees, reliability, component level failure mode assessments, and operational hazards.
  11. Develop project summary presentations for customer reviews, internal team meetings and support to Blue Origin communications team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Passion for our mission and vision.
  2. B.S. in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field, with 8+ years of complex mechanical systems development experience.
  3. Highly organized leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business and technical judgement and bias for action from their previous assignments.
  4. Successful experience in hiring and developing great people with diverse skills and demonstrated ability to empower and coordinate effective teams and resolve issues.
  5. Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment and ability to travel in support of the program, customer, and supplier activities.
  6. Demonstrated experience managing multi-functional teams during design, procurement and build cycles of aerospace/aeronautical vehicles.
  7. Experience in project planning and successful execution of projects to cost and schedule targets.
  8. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  9. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. MBA, Program Management Professional (PMP) certification and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience. Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  2. M.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or systems engineering and experience with launch vehicle development, production, and operations.
  3. Strong business management competence and experience managing large, geographically dispersed programs.
  4. Familiarity with design drawing and GD&T practices, CREO and Windchill design lifecycle tools and structural and fluid/thermal analysis tools and practices such as ANSYS and Thermal Desktop.

Compensation Range for WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20. Other site ranges may differ. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
