Position Overview

We are searching for a Quality Engineer to assist in our production and engineering efforts. You must be a team player; we are a company built on collaboration and creativity.

Job Summary

This position reports directly to the quality leader and is responsible for being the internal voice of the customer, and for supporting production and being a leader with regards to control of nonconforming material, root cause and corrective action, internal audit, management reviews, and simple inspection using hand held tools.

Also assists with the research and development process, and the process of transitioning from design to production by being the voice of quality. This position requires little to no supervision.


Key Job Responsibilities

Acts as the customer advocate for internal activities which support delivery of quality product to the customer, and ensures compliance with all customer quality requirements.

Reviews contracts, requests for quote or proposal, and purchase orders to ensure the company’s ability to comply with customer quality requirements.

Responsible for monitoring and tracking quality data, especially repetitive rejections and negative quality trends. Measures and monitors Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics such as yield, scrap, rework, and warranty returns.

Chairs the Material Review Board and tracks and follows-up on the status of material in MRB, and any related NCRs (Nonconformance Reports), corrective actions, or authorized Proceed-at-Risk situations.

Chairs the Corrective Action Board

Facilitates root cause analysis and problem solving utilizing the best approach for the situation (5-Why, Cause Mapping, or other).

Monitors and drives improvements to customer quality metrics.

Reviews required validation documentation (such as test data and reports) needed to comply with AS9100 and customer quality requirements.

Supports internal and external quality audits as required.

Supports the reporting and monitoring of customer scorecards.


Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Critical thinking ability.

Ability to clearly communicate.

Ability to read a blueprint and basic understanding of GD&T.

Ability to interpret specifications and standards.

Ability to perform simple inspection using micrometers, calipers, verniers, gage blocks and pins.

Basic understanding of APQP principles, methodologies, and tools. (APQP is Advanced Product Quality Planning).

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including for presentations.

Ability to capture important data, analyze data, and report appropriate conclusions.

Basic understanding of quality management systems.

Ability to effectively operate in a project team environment.

Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively without much input for priority setting.

Solid interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with peers, both internally and with customers, auditors, and regulators.

Ability to drive and implement activities to meet customer expectations. Recognizes customer service as a critical factor. Handles customers politely and professionally.


Education, Experience and Formal Training:

Associates degree in technical field and 5 years of quality engineering experience.

Bachelor's degree is highly desired.

Any ASQ certification is a plus.

Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
