The Udacity Content Engineering team is looking for backend software engineers to build products to support the content creation process at Udacity. We develop the internal tools that enable our content creators to rapidly develop high quality content and focus on giving them the best experience possible.

As a backend engineer focusing on internal tools, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining the systems that support our content creation and management processes. You will work closely with our content, product, and engineering teams to design, build, and enhance tools that streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and ensure the highest quality of our educational materials.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for internal tools.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and design solutions that meet the needs of content creators and maintainers.
  3. Optimize and enhance existing systems to improve performance and reliability.
  4. Implement and enforce best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to internal tools.
  6. Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

What We Value:

  1. 3-5 years of professional software engineering experience working hands-on in a product-oriented software engineering role, in live production code.
  2. Strong background in building scalable and low latency systems.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in designing, building, delivering, and maintaining production quality reliable and performant microservices.
  4. We’re not as interested in experience with specific languages or frameworks, as we are in your engineering skill and demonstrated ability to ship, but you’d primarily be working with React, Node, Graphql, GoLang, Postgresql, Python, and the latest web protocols and security concerns.
  5. Nice-to-haves: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and GCP.
  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  7. Passionate about your users’ experience and you feel, as we do, that online education can improve lives worldwide.

Location:

While this is a remote role, applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States of America on a full-time basis.

Compensation:

The maximum base pay for this position is $149,000, depending on experience and location.
