Cadence Inc., located in Staunton, Virginia, is currently hiring for aCNC Technician.
Position Purpose:
The CNC Machine Set-Up Operator position is responsible for setting up and operating one or more types of CNC-controlled production equipment, selecting the appropriate programs/settings, and adjusting as necessary to set-up and operate applicable machines, troubleshooting challenges and production issues as they arise. Each role may be assigned to a specific cell or specialty dependent upon the product line a site is manufacturing (laser, swiss, sharpening, grinding, lathe, mill, etc.).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Machine Setup:
o Set up CNC milling, lathe, Robo Drills, Cutting, 5axis machines or other machinery for specific machining operations.
o Place and secure raw materials or workpieces onto the machine.
Tool Setup and Changes:
o Choose appropriate tools based on the job requirements and materials.
o Load and secure tools into the tool magazine or tool holders.
o Set tool offsets to ensure accurate machining.
Operating Programs:
o Load applicable CNC programs into the machine control unit.
o Confirm that the correct CNC program is loaded for the specific job.
Testing and Calibration:
o Perform test runs to ensure proper machine setup and program execution.
o Adjust machine settings and offsets to achieve the desired accuracy.
Quality Inspection:
o Check parts produced for quality and accuracy per quality regulations.
o Make any necessary adjustments to maintain quality standards.
Monitoring and Adjustments:
o Keep a close eye on machine operations during production runs.
o Detect and address any issues that arise during the machining process.
Maintenance:
o Perform routine maintenance tasks to keep the machine in optimal condition.
o Identify and address minor issues or anomalies that may affect machine performance.
Documentation:
o Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of machine setups, tool changes, and adjustments made.
o Document Issues: Document any issues encountered and the corresponding resolutions.
Communication:
o Communicate with CNC programmers and/or Engineers to ensure understanding of job requirements.
o Work closely with team members, including machinists and supervisors, to facilitate smooth operations.
Safety Compliance:
o Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
o Report any safety concerns or issues promptly.
Computer Skills:
o Familiarity with the programs and settings that control CNC machines.
o General understanding of G and M Codes and machines axes.
Certifications:
The following certifications may aid in the success of this role:
o Mechanical or manufacturing certification from local technical schools or community colleges.
Physical Requirements:
o Manual Dexterity: Involves manipulating small parts and operating controls with precision. A good level of manual dexterity is essential for handling tools, adjusting machine settings, and placing and removing workpieces.
o Strength and Endurance : May require physical effort to set up, adjust, and operate. Operators may need to lift, position, or secure heavy workpieces, tools, or machine components. Physical strength and endurance are important for performing these tasks over extended periods.
o Stamina: Operations can be repetitive and may involve standing for long periods; should have the stamina to sustain focus and perform tasks consistently throughout a shift.
o Visual Acuity: The ability to see and distinguish fine details is crucial in this role. Operators must be able to visually inspect workpieces, read engineering drawings, and monitor the machining process for quality control.
o Hand-Eye Coordination: Requires precise control over the movement of tools and workpieces. Good hand-eye coordination is necessary for manipulating controls, adjusting settings, and achieving accurate results.
o Safety Awareness: Operating equipment safely is paramount. This includes being aware of potential hazards, following safety protocols, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
o Fine Motor Skills: Fine motor skills are essential for tasks such as setting up workpieces, adjusting machine controls, and making minute adjustments.
o Problem-solving skills: Operators should be able to troubleshoot issues that may arise during the grinding process. This may involve adjusting the machine or promptly addressing quality issues.
o Communication Skills : Clear communication with team members, supervisors, and other personnel is important. Operators may need to convey information about the machining process, share insights on the condition of the equipment, and report any concerns or issues.
o Adaptability: Operators may work with different materials, tools, and machine setups. Being adaptable and open to learning new techniques or working with various materials is beneficial in this role.
