Location: Boston, MA - Hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in Office, Remote for the rest of the days)

Duration: 12 months

Job Description:

The client is seeking a skilled Database/ETL Test Engineer to work alongside our other talented test engineers and developers within the client's Data Operations and Technology (DOT) group. The tester's duties will include performing key testing functions in the data product release process. In this role, the candidate will collaborate with colleagues in DOT to design and create manual and automated tests to validate data sources, extraction of data, the application of transformation logic, and loading data into target tables in an Azure cloud database.

Responsibilities:

1. Create and execute test cases based on test strategy and test plans as defined by business requirement documents and ETL design documents.
2. Test ETL processes and Data Warehouse components.
3. Execute backend data-driven tests.
4. Create strategies and test cases for data applications.
5. Provide guidance to other team members as needed.
6. Identify issues pertaining to data submissions or ETL transactions during the creation of data warehouses. Be able to discuss these issues with DBAs, assist with remediation strategies, and help devise timelines for correction.
7. Define and track quality assurance metrics such as defects, defect counts, test results, and test status.
8. Document all problems using CHIA's bug tracking tool and assist in their resolution.
9. Test for continuity and integrity of data loaded from migrated ETL jobs and target DB System.

Qualifications:

1. A Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
2. Seasoned SQL programmer with experience querying LARGE volumes (terabytes) of health data, preferably medical claims, dental claims, pharmacy claims, and eligibility data.
3. Experience working with large scale Database Systems like SQL Server, PostGresSQL, Snowflake, etc., and ETL tools like Talend Data Fabric and IBM DataStage.
4. Experience with Agile Software Development & Testing methods for deployment in cloud environments, preferably MS Azure.
5. Five or more years of relevant experience testing backend applications, focusing on complex SQL queries.
6. Experience analyzing ETL mapping documents to design test plans for validating ETL code.
7. Ability to create SQL scripts based on ETL mapping documents.
8. Ability to create and execute strategies and test cases for applications that use ETL components.
9. Expertise in Database testing with excellent SQL skills.
10. Data warehouse testing experience.
11. Hands-on experience in relational databases and database architecture.
12. Hands-on experience interpreting and understanding data model and ER diagrams.
13. Familiarity with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI will be an advantage but is not required.
