Your Role at BSI
A key member of our Civil/Structural team, the Civil Engineer possesses sound knowledge of earthwork design, paving design, and underground utility design. They will also utilize their knowledge with surveying, soils engineering, erosion control, hydrology, water treatment, and traffic engineering. The ideal candidate works well in a team environment, has experience working with multi-discipline teams, and strives to provide quality designs to our clients.
Responsibilities and Scope
- Possesses sound knowledge of earthwork design, paving design, underground utility design, soils engineering, surveying, erosion control, hydrology, hydraulic design, water treatment, traffic engineering
- Follows planning, site and/or utility regulations and obtains approvals or permits as required
- Considers and communicates with other disciplines and overall project requirements during the project lifecycle
- Develops and writes discipline scope, deliverables, assumptions, and estimates budget for proposals
- Gathers field data and inspects sites and examines civil components and structures to evaluate conditions
- Coordinates with outside consultants and contractors (geotechnical engineers, surveyors, traffic engineers, landscape architects, environmental engineers, and construction contractors)
- Participates in construction support, startup, and commissioning efforts
- Performs or ensures all the necessary calculations and design effort to prepare deliverables
- Follows the BSI Standard Operating Procedures and Client Standards, ensuring quality and technical accuracy of project deliverables
- Establishes and manages their own engineering schedule and budget objectives on assigned projects
Qualifications
- PE License preferred, not required
- 2-5 years of experience in a Civil Engineering role
- Familiar understanding of civil engineering concepts and principles, as well as knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards
- Strong computer skills and advanced civil analysis experience, including three-dimensional site work modeling, hydrologic modeling, hydraulic network modeling, and surface profiling
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- Proficient presentation, math, and analytical skills
- Positive conflict resolution and decision-making skills
- Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks with strong decision-making skills
