Engineering Manager
Job Summary:
Direct the development of new technologies and their application into new product designs and product improvements for Ice Machine, Refrigerator and Freezer product families. Leads a multidisciplined engineering team and development lab team to deliver technology for new products and subsystem improvement projects in line with business objectives.
Essential Functions:
• Meets key project deliverables by defining scope, requirements, milestones, and measures of success; assigning appropriate resources; managing progress, schedule, budgets, and delivery timelines; validating design and test results.
• Achieves Engineering initiatives and objectives by clarifying outcomes; conferring with other functions, suppliers, and external resources; establishing key metrics; managing individual results; monitoring progress and reporting to upper management.
• Provides engineering expertise by consulting in the development, design, improvement, upgrade, performance, cost-reduction, quality, manufacturability, reliability and serviceability.
• Maintain a healthy new technology roadmap that supports the multigenerational product plan.
• Supports patent and trademark application by identifying and resolving potential intellectual property opportunities and infringement risks associated with new product designs.
• Ensures the adherence of products to current requirements of UL, NSF, CE, CSA, and other government regulations by certifying accurate product design documentation and specifications.
• Maintains engineering staff by selecting, orienting, training, and developing employees; maintains engineering job results through employee performance management; includes coaching and disciplining employees, scheduling, monitoring and evaluating job results and performance.
• Maintains engineering operations by coordinating and enforcing project, operational, and personnel policies, systems, and procedures. Supports development and implementation of new business policies and procedures as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Requirements:
This role will direct up to 8 individual contributors: Refrigeration Subsystem Engineer, Ice Maker Module Engineer, Controls/Electronics Engineer, Water Subsystem Engineer, Airflow Engineer, and 2 Lab Technicians.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering field required; advanced engineering or business degree preferred.
• Previous experience in a management-level, lead or principal engineer position in commercial refrigerated products or appliances with reliability engineering and value engineering.
• Expertise in refrigeration system engineering including advanced thermodynamics, heat exchange, air flow, refrigeration component selection, and insulation, preferred.
• Demonstrated product development/project management success.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with mechanical design, appliance controls and components, and refrigeration system design and applications.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project; Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD system experiences and capabilities required.
• Advanced problem-solving skills.
• Advanced communication and relationship management skills.
• Ability to build and lead effective teams.
• Track record of driving continuous improvement in products, and processes. Ability to use Lean Thinking and Six Sigma data.
• Product compliance and Listing experience for product safety, sanitation, and performance with 3rd party agencies such as UL/ETL, NSF, CE, Energy Star, and FDA.
Travel Requirements:
· Travel within US (10%) as needed to conduct site visits with suppliers, customers, industry meetings and training programs.
