Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and motivated AFM Probe Application Engineer to join our dedicated team. The AFM Probe Application Engineer will be instrumental in developing and optimizing AFM probe solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of nanotechnology, collaborate with university researchers and scientists, and drive innovation in AFM probe design and application.
Responsibilities:
- Probe Design and Development:
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to design and optimize AFM probes for specific applications, such as surface topography imaging, mechanical property mapping, and electrical characterization.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and computational modeling to predict and optimize the performance of AFM probes under various operating conditions.
- Prototype and test novel probe designs using advanced manufacturing techniques and nanofabrication processes.
- Application Testing and Validation:
- Develop experimental protocols and methodologies to characterize the performance of AFM probes in different sample environments and measurement modes.
- Design and execute experiments to validate probe performance and reliability, including resolution, sensitivity, and durability testing.
- Analyze experimental data and provide recommendations for optimizing probe designs and operational parameters.
- Customer Support and Training:
- Provide technical support to customers regarding AFM probe selection, calibration, and optimization for specific applications.
- Conduct on-site or remote training sessions for customers on best practices for probe handling, sample preparation, and experimental setup.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to generate technical content, application notes, and educational materials related to AFM probes.
- Product Management and Quality Assurance:
- Define product requirements and specifications for new AFM probe offerings.
- Participate in product development lifecycle, including design reviews, prototype testing, and manufacturing scale-up activities.
- Perform quality control and reliability testing of AFM probes to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related field.
- Strong experience with various modes of operations using AFM with proven record of published papers, application notes or reports.
- Experience on probe design and characterization is desirable.
- Experimental skills, including experience with nanofabrication techniques, microscopy, and surface analysis methods is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose innovative solutions.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and interact with customers.
- Prior experience in a product development, application engineering, or technical support role in the AFM industry is desirable but not required.
This position is based at our Mountain View, CA office, with occasional travel required for customer visits, conferences, and collaborative projects.
