Client Information:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of HIV Prevention (DHP) focus on high impact prevention of HIV—by preventing new HIV infections, improving health outcomes for persons with HIV, and reducing HIV related disparities and health inequities.
DHP develops and maintains a variety of data and information systems to support its mission, including systems to collect, transmit, store, and analyze data for HIV/AIDS surveillance, epidemiology, and program monitoring and evaluation. We are looking for IT and public health partners including statisticians, researchers, behavioral scientists, computer scientists, public health advisors/analysts, budget analysts, and other program staff.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain robust network architectures to support the secure and efficient operation of CDC DHAP IT systems.
- Lead the planning and deployment of network enhancements and upgrades, including both hardware and software components.
- Troubleshoot network issues, optimize network performance, and ensure minimal downtime.
- Develop and enforce network security protocols and practices to safeguard sensitive public health data.
- Collaborate with IT security teams to align network operations with overall security policies and compliance requirements.
- Mentor junior network engineers and support staff in network management and best practices.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in network engineering, with a proven track record of managing large-scale enterprise networks.
- Expertise in configuring and managing network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, particularly from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, or Arista.
- Strong understanding of network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), IP networking, and network security.
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
Preferred:
- Experience in the healthcare or public sector, particularly working with HIPAA-compliant environments.
- Hands-on experience with cloud networking in environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or similar credentials focusing on network security.
